I need some computer help with and for my mom's computer

My mom has AOL. I had to rig the computer to do dailup to post this. She also has a wireless broadband. However, I cannot bridge the two together to get internet service over the wireless broadband.

When I turn on the computer I am getting internet connection, but I cannot log onto the internet.

She has a Netgear wireless router with a motorola cable modem. She has windows XP.

Can anyone help?

When I am using the laptop via wireless only, with the ethernet cable disconnected, I see

Which is what I expect to see with the network cable disconnected ...

If it shows you the wireless information, similar to above, try to open a browser, Internet Explorer or Firefox, and put the default gateway IP addresss in the URL box and see if you can connect to the router.

If she using a cable provider like Comcast, they recently started to limit Internet access to a single MAC. If that's the case, I suggest you call the cable provider, tell them the problem, they likely to register your main PC MAC and computer will be accessing via broadband again.

Then you have to clone your PC MAC to the wireless router (via router Admin screen). Then your router will be able to access, too.

I just got home from repairing a bank's server, so allow me to vent overtime spleen: your first problem is using a Netgear router. Log into it and make sure the assigned static IP address didn't lose it's lease or get reset - it's tied to the MAC address at your ISP. You may have to call them to get the service restarted. Barring that, chuck the friggin' thing in the dumper and get a Linksys.

I don't know what adapter your using but there should be a model number on it..Go to netgear’s website and see if there is an upgrade for it

Well, the MACID they can see is the cable modem, so you can only connect one modem to the cable, but then behind that you put a router/wireless AP, and you’ll still be able to access the net with multiple PC’s.

That happened to me i was caused by spy ware.

I agree get network magic.

But when adding anything to it wireless you have to
keep in mind...network magic has a “wireless network lock” under wireless connections.
Disable the lock,connect your wireless device to the network, the re-enable the lock.
this will secure your wireless device to the network.

I have seen TOO MANY people who use network magic, think there wireless cards/routers were broken because they couldn’t connect to the internet because of this.

DNS Server??? Check to see if your IP provider has recommended DNS settings. Without that assigned to either your router setup or your TCP/IP settings you can’t resolve internet names. It will also prevent you from accessing email.
