The PPP adapter must be an AOL thing ...

When I am using the laptop via wireless only, with the ethernet cable disconnected, I see

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State .... Media disconnected

Which is what I expect to see with the network cable disconnected ...
and

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : home
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.5
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

If it shows you the wireless information, similar to above, try to open a browser, Internet Explorer or Firefox, and put the default gateway IP addresss in the URL box and see if you can connect to the router.
