A labyrinth filed with stone temples and pyramids in 14 caves--some underwater-have been uncovered on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, archaeologists announced recently.

The discover has experts wondering whether Maya legend inspired the construction of the underground complex--or vice versa.

According to Maya myth, the souls of the dead had to follow a dog with night vision on a horrific and watery path and endure myriad challenges before they could rest in the afterlife.

I saw this yesterday in the paper. This was the only non-AP version of the story I could find. Sounds like a pretty extensive construction project.

Actually, no, it isn't. This story has nothing whatsoever to do with the end of the world. It has to do with the underworld.

That is it, it proves the AntiChrist is near!

BTW, it is getting harder to argue with my friends that he is NOT the AC, especially since it looks like his first actions as President will involve abortion and stem cell research.

Oh, well we only have him around until 2012.

Wait a minute!

Isn’t that the date the Mayan Calender ends?

This is getting TOO CREEPY.

The underlining theory is that the Maya and "all the ancients" were
smarter then the USA in technology. Don't you get it?
It's all hyperboyle...

I think that the Mayans and Egyptians and many other ancient cultures and even a whole lot of not-so-ancient cultures were, in a way, smarter than us because our reliance on technology has dumbed us down. For example, give your average architecture graduate a supply of stone and as much labor as they need, and do you think they could build some pyramids that are lined up not only with each other, but with important astronomical things? They’d be lucky to find anything more obscure than the moon or the Big Dipper, and let’s not even get into the difficulty they’d have doing the required math without a calculator...

If all you do, day after day, is build and read stars, anybody with
the proper training can accomplish the same task.
I highly doubt that one person was in charge of designing
and building the pyramids.

I must go now, my UFO is here to abduct me.
