Hey, remember when presidents had to actually lead and accomplish things before having a national holiday named after them? Well, now all you gotta do is be black and show up for the job.
Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation's 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20."Yes We Can" planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald's restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama's honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.
I'm sure it can be a paid day off from work where we take what we've earned and give it to a bum. Perhaps Oprah can give everyone new cars on the holiday! She will need to make sure they are hybrids though. Maybe people will tell stories of how he was born in a manger and stuff. Perhaps government can finally create a nativity scene the ACLU will not want to ban.

I think they should make it an Obama Holimonth.
Obama will decree that Christmas is no longer a national holiday, and instead will be replaced by Ramidan.... followed by Quanza.
In a side note, I had put up some home made campaign signs on Nov. 4 near the polls where I live, which said:
“Keep Christmas a national holiday: Vote John McCain”
Here’s the sick part. Not only did Democrats complain and go into a tizzy, so did many of the Republican oldsters in my precinct!!
They said, and I quote:
“You can’t mix politics and religion like that”
All I can think of since Nov. 4 is that THIS is why the GOP is having such a hard time winning.... because we have such wimps even on the Republican side.
My sign said nothing about Obama. All it said was Keep Christmas a national holiday!!!
I’ll be a gummint employee as of Dec 1, so I’m in favor of holidays. In fact, I thin Obama is so awesome an entire week should be devoted to him.

I emailed the morons behind this to tell them what an offensive idea this is and I encourage everyone to do the same. All he has done is win an election and they are already planning holidays for him??? God forbid he actually have to accomplish anything first!!!

This is not a joke. I may attend one of these for kicks - its 10 minutes from work. I wish I had a digital camera so I could take photos of the Obama cake.
If I had to guess, I would say the proposed holiday would be timed with Juneteenth, which commemorates some milestone in the emancipation of slaves. Topeka has some extensive Juneteenth celebrations already.
I could try to wear an inflammatory t-shirt, and see if I get kicked out of the McDonalds...but I might chicken out.
Remember, Memorial Day has its roots here in Kansas, so you never know. Also - all those made up Halmark Card holidays - they’re based in KC, Missouri, with a large facility here in Kansas. Son we know how to invent a good holiday around here.
I’m already dreading all the “Obama Boulevards,” “Obama Airport,” “Obama Hospital,” “Obama Elementary School,” etc.
