Okay, so we are looking at a few years of outright democrat control of the WH, Senate and House. The prospects for Americans is rather dour on the whole but there are ways to prosper and build "something" for the future. I fully expect people to jump on and complain about outright government confiscation of wealth and compensation and whatever else they need to say but there are other places to rant about that.
What I would like to start a discussion on is how people can make money for themselves, their families and the causes that they choose to donate to over the next few years.
Inflation is more than likely to appear in 2 years with the low interest rates and borrowing of money.
Carbon rules are likely to be implemented so expect costs to increase across the board.
More subsidies for alt. fuels is a pretty sure thing.
Oil is a wild card right now. Oil drilling is going to be on hold while prices fall. The democrats said that drilling would be on the table. Can we expect them to take it off? (Consider that gas prices are going to spike again. That alone could cost them a general election and "Hey man you smell" is pretty shrewd in amassing power. He put candidates up in 2006 that would never stand a chance in winning in liberal districts but they won in more conservative areas so the bottom line is he's about winning, not adherence to a pure liberal dogma.)
Bio fuels means more artificial demand which portends for higher prices and bubble creation. But, there is also derivative product potential that I was just clued into.
Involvement in the auto industry means that the domestic manufacturers are going to have to build cars that they wouldn't otherwise. The supply chain is going to be impacted in a major way.
So, with some of those thoughts in mind, can we talk about sectors, technologies, commodity markets or companies that might be worth looking at? The proviso is, of course, that this discussion is for informative purposes only. If you want to just rant then please go somewhere else. Don't ruin the discussion for other people might want to hear about opportunities.
Try the Clinton years too since he seems to be listening to Larry Summers, Reich and other 90’s financial types.
So you're saying that that Internets webs thing is a real money maker eh? :-)

I think Michelle needs her own line of Bling. Wanna be the CEO of the MOB (Michelle Order of Bling)?
That’s the right idea. The potential trading avenues are practically endless.
One thing that elections in New Zealand have taught me is that what a Politician *says* and what a Politician *does* are two different things.
So much of what Obama has said is truly naff that, if implemented it would surely not work. It was only said to get him into the White House. Sometime soon, after GWB is gone, we will find out what Obama *does*. That is where the moneymaking opportunities surely arise.
I predict the discussion will go something like this:
“The Finances are much worse than we thought: the previous Administration has left us with a REAL MESS. We aren’t going to be able to do what we’ve promised — at least not yet, thanks to GWB. So we are going to have to do X, Y and Z instead.”
It’s a time-honored rort, with the added advantage that someone else takes the blame.
Shave down the military? No way. Iran has already gotten mouthy, and Russia is flexing its muscle. Al Qaeda is about to demand its tribute from Obama. If anything he will spend up large. He will have no choice.
Oil? Obama will start drilling. Again, he has no choice. And he can blame Bush, so he will.
The Civilian Military thing is interesting. I think he will do that. And he will finance it how...?
THAT is where the money is to be made.
Stay clear of the Wob 2.0 companies. It’s Dotcomm 2.0 as far as I am concerned.
A pyramid scheme!!!!!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_scheme
I like "Barfsack OKenyan" or "Barfsack Ocrumbo", also.
I agree with the thought that we have to wait and see on some things. The inflation thing is set in stone though....
LOL
investing in abortion mills might prove to be very profitable. (sarc)
Real estate and tax shelters were good during the Carter years if I remember correctly.
Also, for everybody, government debt is likely going up and it’s already out of control. Eliminate personal debt to avoid being crushed by debt if you have no ability to hide your income.
Trade in pesos, Canadian Dollars, Euros. If they track dollars, use a different currency.
People wandering the streets, with the authority of police to arrest and harm, without the constitutional or ACLU limits, to punish non-PC behavior.
If some previously unemployed deadbeats or previously convicted violent felons end up punishing real citizens for not recycling or criticizing the great leader, you will have real violence. Even some democrats would fight that.
Red and Black Fashion...'cause I don't think it will be brown shirts, white shirts, or blue shirts that O's huge band of merry men will be wearing. I think they will be dressed in the Africa/Anarchy power colors of red and black.
That is EXACTLY what Clinton said after his election in 1992. The promised middle class tax cuts were suddenly off the table even before his inauguration.
Wow! Red and Black are Africa/Anarchy colors?

It is a CLASSIC Lefty strategy: Ken Georgetti pulled that stunt when the New Democratic Party (socialist) took over from Bill Vanderzalm/Grace McCarthy’s Social Credit (conservative) party in British Columbia late 1980’s/early 1990’s. It was an effective strategy.
Click here and scroll half way down The red-and-black flag is the symbol of the anarcho-syndicalist and anarcho-communist movements. Black is the traditional color of anarchism, and red is the traditional color of socialism. The red-and-black flag combines the two colors in equal parts, with a simple diagonal split.
