Steven Edwards: McCain's Palin problems make Romney look better all the time
National Post ^ | October 27, 2008, 1:22 PM | Kelly McParland

... Sarah Palin is in revolt, it’s reported, angry that John McCain’s handlers forced her to wear haute couture; that she’s not been able to be herself before the media; and that Republican campaign strategy -- like the decision to give up on Michigan -- is askew.

....

It's all about the political makeover of the Republican Party’s new great hope.

For many senior Republicans, Obama appears sure to prevail Nov. 4 ...

Advice is already incoming: She should at all costs avoid running for Congress, writes Ron Bonjean, former communications director for Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate majority leader Trent Lott.

“If Palin ran for the Senate, she quickly becomes part of the establishment,” he says, advising her to return to Alaska where she can remain politically active as its chief executive, yet still build on her new-found fame.

He also suggests party chiefs should surround Palin with “the brightest people,” meaning they “cannot be friends or neighbours with questionable qualifications.”

In what would mark a strategic shift in the way the party promotes its 2012 candidate, Bonjean says Palin should lead a recruitment drive among people serving in local, city and state offices who could spread the “Palin Change” message across America.

As for this election, McCain’s folly at not having picked Mitt Romney as his running mate is now all too apparent as the economy dives. The Republican presidential candidate’s turn southward in the polls mirrored the mid-September shock to the world financial markets, which propelled the economy and its future to the number one concern of U.S. voters.

I’ve simply started lying to Obama supporters, friends in particular, otherwise things get really heated.

As I responded to a bunch of young starry eyed ones, I’m not a racist some of my best friends are white people....last spring when coming out against Obie was met with slackjawed, roundeyed amazement.

Well they’re still unreadably liberal and narrow-minded — they must have found John Kerry a bit too much to take.

Hey folks, this whole thing is fabricated and people are falling for it. This is an attempt to split up the GOP over stuff other than the fact we want to defeat the communist.

Don’t take your eye off the ball and we will win.

Resist the propaganda. McCain/Palin are doing just fine.

They are gaining, Obama is slipping, that is why this BS is being pushed.

We know exactly where the lies came from and in one campaign, John McCain came back in spite of the people spending his money. We know where the stories were planted and who planted them on three different campaigns that I can verify. I have heard rumors of the 4th but don’t have the facts.

Some of you may swallow the Romney koolaid but others of us went for facts!

If you cannot live with facts, that’s your problem not mine.

I saw 2 tricked-out Hummers on I-10 yesterday afternoon, both had Leon County plates and Obama stickers.

I totally agree with your post. This is a Politico/MSM tactic to promote infighting to divide the vote.

Obama is tanking, that is why this tactic is being deployed.

Romney's been fundraising for the ticket non-stop. He's been holding high-end fundraising dinners for McCain-Palin for several months now. He is being utilized how the McCain camp feels he can best assist the ticket.

Mitt also told reporters last week, that any time McCain’s campaign asks him to do something, “I do it.”

Romney said he also has made appearances this year to benefit about 30 Republican congressional candidates. He said he is focusing in the final days of the campaign on helping “nine or 10” who are involved in races where Romney thinks he has the best chance to make a difference. http://cjonline.com/stories/102308/loc_347413642.shtml

RE: “I can’t believe Obama’s ascendency, either. I grew up in New York City in 50’s-60’s (I was a child in the 50’s and went to high school and college in the 60’s).

The people who are gaining power are the people who were about 10 years older than I was, but were very influential in my age group. The SDS people and Columbia radicals were somewhat older than I was, for example, but I personally knew or had met a lot of them, because I went to one of NYC’s “elite” high schools.

I hated them then. They were all privileged, arrogant SOB’s . And they still are. I thought most of them had failed in the 1970’s and I never thought I’d live to see them winning. If Barry wins, 1968 has won. This is a nightmare for me.”

********

YES! I totally agree with you. Grew up in Los Angeles in fifties/sixties — public schools all the way — witnessed first hand all that transpired around CA with the hippies and other leftists; Berkeley and UCLA sit-ins, anti-war demonstrations and violence. I hated those people as well, and I was working for “the establishment” during much of it. Those dissident troublemakers were NOT my peers, that’s for certain.

To see all this coming back in the form of the younger frontman (Obama), and his older cronies like Ayers, is chilling and horrifying all at once.

Having seen first-hand (via trips there) how people lived in the old Soviet Union circa mid-seventies was enough to cure me of any favorable notion of socialism/communism/Marxism!

Those who vote for Obama KNOWING and UNDERSTANDING what his beliefs are and where he came from deserve what they get. Minorities who don’t “get it” and only think it’s cool that a minority may occupy the White House won’t help matters one bit. Unfortunately the rest of us will go down with the ship too.

If it’s true about Romney’s people being behind this crap, then that just makes me dislike Romney all the more. Romney would not have been a better running mate. Palin energized voters way more than Romney ever could. Can you image running a ticket of two rich white guys against Obama?

Don't believe this BS... It's a divisive tactic. McCain's with Romney on tour today, Mitt's been on TV circuit. He was asked flat out if he would have been a better choice, and he said NO... A resounding NO...

Contrast that with the likes of that idiot Ridge and his disgusting comments, days before the GE

Here we are one week away from the election and people here are forgetting who the real enemy is.

Ignore this BS and go for the win. Cut it out and ignore the media BS.
