Massachusetts State Police say a 200-pound Russian wild boar was euthanized after being struck by a vehicle on a road in Lancaster earlier this week.
That was a big surprise to state wildlife experts. They say although some wild boars are known to live in northern New England, there never has been a native population of feral swine in Massachusetts.

Do you like bacon?
One of Teds relatives?
A church secretary takes a call. The caller says ,”Is the head hog at The trough there?”
The secretary says, “Please Sir, do not refer to our pastor as the head Hog at the trough. That is very insulting.”
“Oh, I’m very sorry. I meant nothing by that. It’s just a local phrase We use in the part of the country I come from. The real reason I called Was to donate $50,000.00 to your building fund.”
The secretary says, “Hold on. I see the ‘Big Oinker’ coming through the Door right now.”
That’s a hell of a lot more than 200 pounds.
Other than a large bear, wild boar are the most dangerous animal in the woods.
Sheesh. The must have forgot to check Barney Frank's neighborhood.
It’s good it was a vehicle it came in contact with and not a person, imagine even the vehicle is not in very good shape.
“They say although some wild boars are known to live in northern New England, there never has been a native population of feral swine in Massachusetts.”
Read / heard on Discovery Channel / NPR ???...that domestic pigs will turn feral within 2 weeks of living in the wild..
They are highly intelligent and highly adaptable..
That is, other than the Massachusetts congressional delegation.
Now you cut that out——I’m from Barney’s neighborhood.
(Not something I’m proud about)
Oink !!!
They might have thought that there wasnt a feral population in Mass, but they are like cockroaches, if you see one, there are 50 more that you dont see. They have them now.
200 pounds is considered a feeder pig by those who raise them, not even close to hogzilla. Market pigs run 220 to 240 pounds.
Stop picking on Teddy....he is the Hero of Chapaquitic...
Our new National health care program will be named after him...
The Hogzilla National Medical Security Program? HNMSP? Teddy for short?
True.... lived in Louisiana for a while...some of the locals would turn the pigs out and then go hunting later...feral domestic pigs mating with wild boar.....really nasty animals..very,very dangerous
“there never has been a native population of feral swine in Massachusetts.”
