Star Trek legend William Shatner has launched an astonishing attack on former co-star George Takei, calling him "sick" and "psychotic".
In an internet video clip the former Captain Kirk said nobody cared when Takei, who played Mr Sulu in the sci-fi series, finally came out as gay in 2005.
Shatner launched the attack after Takei announced that Shatner would not be invited to his gay wedding last month.
Takei has admitted harbouring ill-feelings towards his former co-star, who, he claims has a huge ego and hogged the limelight while on Star Trek.
Shatner says in the video: "The whole thing makes me feel badly, poor man. There is such a sickness there.
(snip)
But he has continued to speak badly about me for all these years. Obviously, hiding his homosexuality - talk about festering and not living the truth of your life and feeling badly about yourself - and being fearful somebody would find out about this terrible, terrible secret, so he thought.
"Finally at the age of, I think, 70, he decides to come out of the closet and say, "I'm gay".
"Like, who cares? Be gay. Don't be gay. That's up to you George."
(snip)
"I presume he can remember all these terrible thing I must have done when I said 'Hello' or something to him.
"You would think he had this epiphany and say - because he and I don't have many years left in this world - 'I wish him well. I'm so happy that I wish him well'.
"But instead what he does is he makes this big deal about not inviting me to his wedding.
(snip)
"It's sad. I feel nothing but pity for him."

The You Tube video of “Denny Crane” being robbed is absolutely hilarious...and so spot-on. “Watch. Wallet. Gun.”
Denny Crane!
Good Lord, is George Takei a jealous man or what?
“”You would think he had this epiphany and say - because he and I don’t have many years left in this world - ‘I wish him well. I’m so happy that I wish him well’.”
Shatner is nearly 80 now, isn’t he?
Very good, pragmatic advice, if a bit obvious.
Ok someone’s gotta say it, it may as well be me...
KAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN!
Please, there are kids reading these posts, use the term, "pee pee envy."
Yeah! That guy Shatner must have thought he was, you know, the STAR of the show or something like that!
I have one in my crew at work. He is out, and is just one of the guys. Everybody accepts what he is and who he likes. It is really no big deal to any of us.
Another one, on another shift, acts picked on, flares up at any perceived offense, and generally makes like difficult for everybody. Nobody hangs with him and avoids him at all cost.
While I'm sure that is the source for anger of some, I doubt it is the source for the anger of all.
Reminds me of one of my uncles. He moved to the San Fran Bay area, because he feared the reaction of his Mid-western family & friends. All of us were guilty by default. Fearing rejection, he rejected first & then blamed those he rejected for the distance he himself had created.
i just watch ST:TOS at 6:00 this morning... on TV Land... this one did have Sulu in it... i always thought he was creepy...
Shatner is going to catch flak for saying Takei is afflicted with a festering sickness, because people are going to assume that he is saying that homosexuality is a sickness.
Of course, this is not what Shatner was saying at all.
Bill Shatner realizes, of course, that how one relates to other individuals sexually is far less important than how one relates to Bill Shatner. This is a point that is so obvious, it would seem unnecessary that it ever be made. Which sex you sleep with merely reflects your choices in what you do for fun, but hatin’ on Captain Kirk... that’s another matter altogether! That’s sick!
George is not the first former Star Trek actor to mention that Shatner had a huge ego and was unbearable to others, with the noted exception of “Mr. Spock” actor, Leonard Nimoy. But good grief, I agree w/Shatner when he says, “Be gay. Don’t be gay. Who cares, George?” Bill, you probably wouldn’t have enjoyed yourself anyway. It was probably a crappy, boring wedding. Who cares?
Bwahahahaha. *wheeze* Bwahahahaha.
Damn, sir, THAT is funny!
Obviously, Bill Shatner is NOT setting his phaser to “Fabulous!” ;-)
William Shatner has a big ego!! Oh NOOOO!
William Shatner was a camera hog on Star Trek!!! Say, it's not so, Joe!!
Ah, Star Trek was ah, let me see, 40, yes, 40 years ago. George Takei has worked for the LA Metro bus system since then. He'd be completely unknown, but for Star Trek and Shatner made Star Trek.
The fact that Shatner had a big ego and was a camera hog was part of that great movie "Galaxy Quest". That was not news. Jeesh, Sulu! Get over it. You should have invited Shatner to your wedding. Grown up, you shouldn't have thrown a hissy fit.
VERY funny Photoshop! (That IS a Photoshop, isn’t it? I don’t THINK I missed any showings.)
Not all gays are attention seekers. Some are. I would venture to say a disproportionate number are. But not all, by any means.
Don’t you understand Captain?
Ensign SULU obviously had a man-crush on you.
