Are we expecting a zombie outbreak?

You should ALWAYS expect a zombie outbreak. Haven't you been paying attention? :)

You never know!

A few more Starbucks close, and people will start to have that look in their eyes, you know, like Jack Nicholson...

“Heeeeeeeeeres Johnny!!”

I've been prepping since Gulf War I based on the simple fact that The Masses are Asses and will panic at the slightest provocation - real or imagined. Started out slow, gained momentum during Y2K, and went hog wild after 9-11.

If you haven't started, you are WAY behind.

A disaster, man-made or natural, doesn't have to flatten your house to make your life miserable. Try going to the store for a loaf of bread the night before a few snow flakes hit DC.

House of Meow is Prepared.

>Everyone should go and bookmark it for that coming rainy day...<

A better idea is to print it. That way you can sit in the candle light and explain why you didn’t get prepared for living without running water and electricity.

Don't oppress me!!

This is my egg beater, and you can't have it.

Hah! I don’t want your ofay eggbeater! I’ll bet you’ve got a garlic press, too!

I’m a true believer in manual can-openers, though. Haven’t had an electric one over 20 years.

My wife bought a box of propane cigarette lighters for $4 at a local store last year. There’s 50 of the them in the box. On sale items are always something to watch for.

Good idea, some of them resopees are MMM MMM MMM Good!

Good Idea on those lighters and keeping one's eyes open for deals like that...

While some scoff at being the Boy Scout and being prepared (as we both are!) those who do just have to remember that stocking up can be looked at as just beating inflation!

Besides... what are those folks going to do if the gubbmint decides to pass No Hoarding laws! They will be S.O.L!

If you have thoughtfully prepared your domain with provisions to feed your family during bad weather and natural disasters, it is suprising how rarely you will be shaken by media reports. Self reliance is the key to survival.

FEMA used to and may still have rules saying that all food supplies of more that three days worth shall be confiscated for the general welfare. So don’t brag too loudly or your hungry neighbors will turn you in.

LOL!

That's good advice for the city folk! Thankfully my closest neighbor is about the distance a .308 could travel on a windless day... and HE has more than I do!

The only Folk that have a clue to my preparedness are the one's that would be invited over if the SHTF... with THEIR stuff in tote!

If any gubmint agents were to ever show up to take my largess, they best pack month or two worth of MRE's, it wouldn't be worth their effort to try something that dire...

“I know I’m Paranoid. But am I paranoid ENOUGH?”

A friend of mine said that - thought it was good. Last year we were out of power for a week in the winter. We lived in the basement with the wood stove, oil lamps, inverter operated lights and pc, and gas heated hot showers. The elderly lady next door lived came over and stayed with us too.

Plenty of food, etc. HOWEVER - the wood went VERY quickly, I probably went through 1/4 of my supply in those 6 days. That was an eye-opener at how fast it can go. So - have a means of gathering more wood. (Here in Suburbia the source of dead wood may be difficult!)

Resupplied with more wood now, got a generator - still need to wire up the gas furnace so I can hook it up to the gen so we can have some heat.

Like the robot uprsising, an outbreak of zombies isn't a matter of if, but when.

But, as Shaun of the Dead showed, zombies are slow and not terribly dangerous, even to a group of unarmed Brit pub-flies.

Being prepared is great, but one must keep in mind what to be prepared for. For instance in Tucson, where I’ve lived since Ford was president, I’ve experienced exactly 1 (one) blackout of longer than a couple hours, and that one was only 18 hours. So a generator and all that it implies is unnecessary. Also because of where I am in the city there’s lots of wide open space nearby, so my shovel is as much portable toilet as I might need.

There really is such a thing as over prepared, you need to really understand the problems your LIKELY to encounter as opposed to the ones you merely MIGHT encounter. Don’t prepared for might, that’s a waste of effort and storage space, stick to likely.

Shaun of the Dead had the best emergency survival plan ever:
Get to the Winchester, have a pint, and wait for this whole thing to blow over.
