US soldiers are now confiscating privately-owned firearms in Baghdad

Yes, it's very disappointing. I really don't want to see this country go that way.
People have worked too hard and survived so much to see things backslide like this.
I hope the Iraqis fire the government at the polls. Because they can. :)
Way to go!
Prayers up for their peaceful success, and your safety as well as theirs.
This is a really bad idea because it turns our guys from a liberating force to an occupying force.
They took “heavier” machineguns away back then.
Check this out.
This kind of sucks.
Perhaps someone has better info on this, but I remember that I was horrified when I saw that clause in the Iraqi constitution.
Article 17 [Licensed Arms]
It shall not be permitted to possess, bear, buy, or sell arms except on licensure issued in accordance with the law.

Wow ......taking even their one AliBaba ??
A preview here if Obama gets in the door......
Allegra good words from you to them VOTE teh SOB’s back to the ice age !
Damn ...
It does sound like they are trying to agitate things.
This is not good.
The first thing I thought of was an unarmed populace at the mercy of whatever kind of scum rises to the top in that situation.
Will there be another Saddam?
It’s insanity.
Unfortunately, this is how we will lose our RKBA here at home. A receipt for your guns so you can "contest it later"? Sorry...give up your guns, and you'll never see them again.
I hope to God we don't cave in so easily when Obamanation tells us to "turn 'em in".
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
So how many of we law-abiding citizens will become "terrorists" overnight? Some of us, for sure. But I get the sinking feeling most gun owners will sheepishly turn them in, hoping "someone will do something about it". News flash, friends: "someone" will be as worthless as a toothless guard dog. Get ready, patriots.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
They're still shaking off the dictatorship mentality here. They've pretty much lived with it all of their lives.
When I reminded the two of them yesterday that they can vote the scum who is implementing this out of office, it was like they had forgotten. They visibly brightened at the notion that they can actually have a say in this.
After that, I found myself wishing I could address a large crowd of them, encouraging them to use their democracy. I'll keep telling the Iraqis I work with and suggest that they spread the word in their neighborhoods, in the cafes and on the streets. Vote the trash who implements this crap out.
They have their second national election coming up this January. Last time, it was all about the fact that they could vote.
This time, it will actually be about issues the Iraqi people hold near and dear.
Vote for freedom, Iraq. Because you can.
I'm still not convinced fighting a broken system from within itself is all that wise. After all, look at the mess we're in.
Your Iraqi friends may actually have a better time of it than we do back over here though. Smaller, younger government and communities with a common enemy.
Always... "Sic vis pacem, para bellum..."
Disarming the common man seems to be a specialty among all government types, regardless of country, creed, or time period, isn't it?
Probably happens in capitals first, because that’s where the powerful govt people are.
Favorite quote from the local DA: "The Constitution presents some real problems in prosecuting drug cases."
