I firmly believe in open carry and it’s a fine law, it’s just that some people don’t use a lot of common sense when they carry.

Well who wants to wear one of those fanny pack holsters or a shoulder one on a hot day? Right to bear is an open right.

Why isn’t it legal to carry a concealed weapon without a permit?

Oh, I have no complaints or objections to open carry.
However, anyone who wishes to do evil in your vicinity will most likely target you first, as they can see you are armed.
Unless you are a uniformed LEO, advertizing the fact that you are armed is certainly no advantage.

That situation is just silly. I have to agree that it's more like an in-your-face to carry a visible gun. Besides which, in a confrontation you lose the element of surprise. There are lots of attractive ladies’ purses - large and small - with a buildt-in carry pouch - or holster, if you will.

They know that a lot of people get upset, or nervous, or scared when they see someone who is obviously not a police officer walking around with a gun on their hip, at the mall, at the grocery store, at the park, around your kids, etc. Many (if not most/all) off duty law enforcement officers are required (through dept. P&P) to conceal their off-duty weapons when carrying in plain clothes because of this reason.

You lose the element of SPEED by trying to get your firearm out of a concealed holster. There is also a "scare the sheep" problem we are currently dealing with in areas where open carry has be decriminalized because of people who have long advocated "concealed or nothing" crap.
People aren't used to seeing law abiding civilians with openly carried arms. If you stop and think about it, how many criminals are openly sporting a firearm?
It conflates concealed carry with criminal carry.
This attitude must change.

It is tactically unsound. (sarc)Which is why cops and military prefer to carry concealed.(/sarc)

Guns are scary and bad. They frighten people and should be left at home, unloaded, locked away in a gun safe, where they won’t jump up and shoot someone accidentally. Better yet, they should be turned in to a buyback program for pennies on the dollar.

Bravo sierra. The exact opposite is true. When BG's see armed folks around, the head elsewhere for easier pickings. Agreed. Criminals are lazy and typically follow the path of least resistance. If they were into hard work, they wouldn't have to steal for a living.

Not if they want to grab someone’s gun to use it to commit a crime. Open carrying when you are in a crowded setting with a purpose other than providing security (e.g. watching your daughter’s soccer game, shopping, etc.) is asking for trouble. Just because something is (and should be) legal, doesn’t mean it isn’t dumb.
In some situations, open carry is reasonable, and it’s not a bad idea to get people used to the idea that ordinary citizens carry guns — a concept that’s foreign to many people who imagine that normal people don’t carry guns, because they can’t SEE normal people carrying guns. But a children’s soccer game, where there’s a big crowd of hollering people all focusing their attention on the game, is not a smart place for a spectator to open carry.
To: nateriver
Oh the irony! Now that the soccer mom no longer has a CHL, she must, by law, carry openly.

Well who wants to wear one of those fanny pack holsters or a shoulder one on a hot day? When you see a man wearing a fanny pack, and he isn't wearing a pink sweatband and listening to Broadway Showtunes on his iPod, you can assume that he's carrying.

I agree that your arguments have merit. I prefer to carry in my bag rather than a holster. BTW, I really enjoyed the quotes on your page. Hope a lot of people read them.

Because to a liberal, carrying concealed means that you are up to something nefarious and therefore should be ‘regulated’.
