Grandpa only had to speak to a horse or mule and it would come to attention, follow him like a puppy.
I told hubby, he better be glad my “pets” only run to dogs! Altho, I did get Grandpa’s way with horses! Just can’t afford them!
We don’t have much color here, either, but I enjoy what we get. It’s not worth moving somehwere cold jsut to see the leaves change!
**I used them for so many things..**
Grandbaby saw the material the other day and pitched a fit. He thought it was for him! Guess I’ll have to make him one or two. There’s a really cute rubber ducky flannel... LOL
Bautiful, yorkie!
As with so many skills, farming with a mule has jsut about become a lost art. The old guys were in the store with me one day, talking about plowing with a mule. They figured out that by the time you walked to the field, plowed all day, and then walked home, a man could walk a hundred miles in a day, easy. No wonder they died in their 30’s and 40’s.
They have a festival a couple hours from here—Benson Mule Days. You’d be surprised how many mules and draft horses there still are. These are truly working animals, and awesome to see in action!

See how long it takes you to put this puzzle together! (You can change the shape and number of pieces, by clicking on the "change cut" link at the left of the page.)
Have fun!
GG, it looks like the Benson Mule Days Festival would be well worth a two hour drive! Wow!

Great pictures, Dolly...and aren’t YOU the cutie! :D
Thanks for sharing!
thanks luv.. it was such a fun outing. I think I have decided I would like to make a goal of seeing as many of the presidential centers as possible..
just saying I like to travel & might is one thing, but specific goals help me
I just got back from church, berry picking (very good) and got Mexican take out. It is 80 degrees here & I LOVE IT
Yes! Thanks, Luv. It seems I have missed so many posts, these past few weeks! Dolly - you are a doll! Thank you for sharing all the great pictures with us.

fun storeis about grandpa! and a BIG YES about the expenses of Horses as pets.. Not for the impoverished!
you are in NC I beieve.. I lived in NC for 15 years & the fall was always “later” but so sweet to ride through the Blue Ridge and the Smokies to see the wonderful color. I miss it so much
Ours is almost at peak - each day a little richer in the shades of fall
So beautiful, Meg, would love to be in that scene. Thank you for the welcome to Amy’s Place, even though I can only stay a short while again.
I came to a really nice Farmers Market after church today, can hear the live music playing now. The sun is warm, but generally our weather in SoCal is much cooler now. I hope the nearby brushfire is out by now.....
Ladies, nice to see you during my short time online today. I agree wholeheartedly, Billie, with your appreciation of what Meg gives us.
Yorkie, pineapple upside down cake is one of my favorite things ever. In fact, most of your recipes are, and I am overdue to come right over to your kitchen and be a taste-tester.
Gardengirl, when I was at the county fair here recently, I went to the horse show arena and some of the competitions were for mules. I was surprised and there were some handsome entries.
That’s about it...looks like a busy week coming up, but I’ll try to get back.
Haven’t ever made it to mule days, but a lot of my customers have. They said it’s really great. It’s also in the heat of summer, and I don’t do heat well. :(
Beautiful pic, and for some reason—Nicknamedbob your words have the cadence of “Three Bells”—to me, anyway!
I miss my grandpa so much. :( He was Welsh and Cherokee—not a large man, but stronger than you’d ever believe looking at him. Coalminer and farmer—I can see him walking around with his hands in his pockets, whistling. He had a way with horses and mules that was jsut beautiful to watch. Daddy always says he loves tracors the way grandpa loved mules.
**you are in NC I believe**
Yep, right on the coast, so we don’t get a whole lot of color. Love the mountains. Daddy’s people are fom there, so it always feels like home. The Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful at any time! Sorry you had to move! NC is a great state, and you won’t find any finer people anywhere on the planet.
Hey Dita!
Ditto on the pineapple cake/taste testing! I made one a couple weeks ago. I do love them!
I adore everything about horses, from the way they smell to the way they feel to their grace and beauty. Haven’t had one/ridden in years but I don’t think you ever get over your first love! LOL
GOT IT!
