(BUT, I think he DID write it - and he lives it (or lived it), because without the experience, how could a man write something so beautiful and sensitive?)
Just as your poetry comes from your heart - and touches us all!

Have been picking up hickory nuts this week. Hope there will be enough for a pound cake, the drought has taken it's toll.
I like it with huckleberry preserves.
To: NicknamedBob

Kitty Mittens, thank you. It encouraged my heart, too. As we turn on the news each day, everything seems to be so pessimistic.
I think it is imperative that we keep our minds free and clear of negatives; and full of positive, loving thoughts - focus on goodness; and there is only one sure way to do that:

A Handful Of Thorns
Give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:21
Jeremy Taylor was a 17th-century English cleric who was severely persecuted for his faith. But though his house was plundered, his family left destitute, and his property confiscated, he continued to count the blessings he could not lose.
He wrote: They have not taken away my merry countenance, my cheerful spirit, and a good conscience; they have still left me with the providence of God, and all His promises . . . my hopes of Heaven, and my charity to them, too, and still I sleep and digest, I eat and drink, I read and meditate. And he that hath so many causes of joy, and so great should never choose to sit down upon his little handful of thorns.
Although we may not be afflicted with the grievous difficulties that Jeremy Taylor endured, all of us face trials and troubles. Are we grumbling? Or do we refuse to let our little handful of thorns, our troubles, obscure the overwhelming abundance of our blessings?
When we feel like complaining, lets remember Gods faithfulness and give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! . . . Remember His marvelous works which He has done! (Ps. 105:1,5).
When upon lifes billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost;
Count your many blessingsname them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done. Oatman

I gaze upon the landscape With a feeling to behold, Overwhelmed by the beauty Of the bounty of orange and gold.
A calm and unruffled moment, Seems to put me in a spell, Overcomes me with a sensation That the harvest is doing well.
The trees are loaded with leaves, Mixed with yellow, orange and red, Clouds casting their weary shadows Where the broken branches are dead.
The fallen leaves are dispersed Throughout the nearby hills, Giving the deer a camouflaged haven To satisfy Nature's will.

The Wild Swans at Coole
William Butler Yeats (1919)
The trees are in their autumn beauty,
The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine-and-fifty swans.
The nineteenth autumn has come upon me
Since I first made my count;
I saw, before I had well finished,
All suddenly mount
And scatter wheeling in great broken rings
Upon their clamorous wings.
I have looked upon those brilliant creatures,
And now my heart is sore.
Alls changed since I, hearing at twilight,
The first time on this shore,
The bell-beat of their wings above my head,
Trod with a lighter tread.
Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still.
But now they drift on the still water,
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lakes edge or pool
Delight mens eyes when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?
