GAS GOING UP BY 5 PM EST
my experience today, just now
Posted on 09/11/2008 1:18:08 PM PDT by RBurke
We have information that gas is going up to 6$ a gallon and will be limited to 10 gallons per purchase after 5pm tonight. I first heard this in Gainesville Florida but we didnt beleive it. We heard it again around 3:30 pm in Ft White Florida at a school while picking up kids. The owner of a local gas station confirmed it and said he will put his prices up to 6$ per gal at 5pm. There are long gas lines and people are putting gas in any container they can find in Ft White. The reason we heard for it is, the refineries going offline for the hurricane plus opec slowing production. It looks like its true so gas up quickly.

Plus the entire city of Houston and people in surrounding coastal areas are filling up their gas tanks today. Long lines at all gas stations. Probably over 6 million people in this area of Texas filling up today.
Houston is expecting 100+ mph winds.

Is this serious, or is this something that deserves a ZOT?

You don’t have to be such a jerk. It’s a nice heads up for anyone living in that area.

Dude, you do have a personal Hurricane Season tactical petroleum reserve don't you?
Not?
Get a Diesel vehicle and start storing at least a month's worth useage.

Charleston SC, ( North Area ) also has lines. Was going to start a vanity thread on it as I was puzzled by seeing them and the radio news had nothing on it. So thank you for this.
Funny thing is, the demand spike due to the rumor could temporally raise prices.

People panicking in the face of a storm is not new.
Idiots posting it on the web is not new, either.

Obama told victims in the path of Ike to hurry up and get their wind power stations installed.

It isnt a zot unless ALOT of people have been zapped very well-—I didnt want to believe it either but after traveling to another city an hour away—the next person who told us were the teachers at a school. Then a gas station owner confirmed it. Its gonna be interesting to see what happens after 5pm. Im curious too—but we did fill-up all our vehicles.
