It looks to me like there is more plastic in each of the new jugs. Sure they ship easier, but that means more solid waste at the end of the line.

When the current ones were first used, people complained about them too. They prefered the old cartons.
Looks like a great idea to me. Cutting weekly deliveries from 5 to 2 ... what’s not to like? Anybody that whines about the container being harder to pour really needs to focus on more important issues in their lives.

It’s been a while since I dropped my Sam’s Club membership, but IIRC ‘an unpleasant shopping experience’ is an essential part of their corporate culture.
Bought 3 gallons, and saved each empty, They are great for storing latex paints as the containers are stiffer. We also use them to store water on our boat. I prefer them over the flimsy soft ones.
Don't know if it's only because of the square containers, but milk at Costco costs $3 a gallon.

I bought some the other day but looking at it was leery with the kid’s trying to pour out of them.
I poured some the first time this morning. Most of it made it in the cereal bowl, but a lot came down the side and spilled all over the counter. “*&5# &^8%$ piece of *&^%$ jugs made in *&^^% China!” (Well, I didn’t get THAT upset, but won’t buy it again. The mouth is way to big.)
And yes - need to get it into another container for the kids (and me!) to use without spilling.
Seems like we used to buy milk in paper cartons that were kind of square. Now they are plastic, and will continue to be plastic until the oil gives out. The cows are not square containers, but we got used to square cartons anyway.
The base reasoning as I understand it is that the new jugs allow for less transport/storage cost thus should result in savings to the customer. We'll see.

I agree on them being a better shape for reusing. BUT - do you have any tricks for getting them REALLY clean. Years ago I tried saving water in old milk jugs but the water would smell bad (sour milk), but still okay for flushing the toilets if need be. Also - those thin milk jugs would degrade over the years.
