June 21, 2008
Over the past several days, I have gone through several emotions, confusion, disgust, disappointment, and finally anger. At first my confusion and disgust were aimed at the arrogance of our State Legislature. Now, I find anger has overtaken my disappointment for my Governor, Bobby Jindal. My anger also extends to the national media, which includes the press and conservative radio talk show host that have long touted the savior of the Republican partys future.
Since Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana has made the national news and exposed the corrupt and inept leadership in Baton Rouge. The impression the rest of the country had of Louisiana was skewed as a result. In actuality, Louisiana can be broken into three regions, New Orleans, the people that occupy the State Capitol building, and the rest of the state. Unfortunately, the majority of the state falls into the latter category. But, its that part of the state that stood up in October of 2007 and demanded our reputation be redeemed. The rest of Louisiana voted for reform. Bobby Jindal promised that reform.
When we elected Bobby Jindal, we knew he had national political aspirations. We also knew he was going to use the Governors office to achieve those aspirations. But, we actually thought he would use the office of Governor to prove that he could be, as Rush Limbaugh says, the next Ronald Reagan.
For some reason, Rush, Newt Gingrich, and many people looking for the next Ronald Reagan continue to tout Bobby Jindal as the second coming. Unfortunately, they arent looking at his actions. Ronald Reagan knew how to use a veto pen. Ronald Reagan knew what his conservative base wanted, mainly because it was what he wanted.
The people of Louisiana have overwhelmingly told Bobby Jindal to veto the legislative pay raise. He can repeat his three talking points as many times as he chooses. They can stop answering the phone, which they have. By the way Governor Jindal, a recorded message is so impersonal.
Finally, Governor Jindal may take the voters of Louisiana for granted. He may think the national press will not see his actual record. And he probably is right. Louisianas newspapers have gotten this story right. As a people who really want reform, we must make sure the national press gets it right.
I know a fake picture when I see one. Everyone knows there are no toes left after the new and improved Zot 9000 does it’s job.
LOL!
I bet ‘e’s pinin’ for the fjords!
:)
That cat is serious business.
BULL! Its bad enough when Democrats lie about Reagan's record. We don't need to further anti-Reagan lies on conservative Free Republic.
President Reagan's actual record in support of pro-life policies was quite good.
*Reagan supported legislation that would allow for a challenge of Roe vs. Wade, while promoting a Human Life amendment to the US Constitution.
*Reagan adopted the "Mexico City Policy" halting federal aid to private groups promoting abortions abroad.
*The Reagan admin cut off funding to the United Nations Fund for Population Activities because the global agency violated U.S. law by participating in China's mandatory abortion program.
*The Reagan admin adopted regulations prohibiting federally funded "family planning clinics" from promoting abortion as birth control.
*Reagan himself introduced the issue of fetal pain into the public debate over abortion.
*The Reagan White House blocked use of federal money for research using the tissue of aborted babies. A forerunner to banning partial birth abortion.
*The Reagan admin helped win approval of the "Danforth Amendment," which said federally funded educational institutions could not be guilty of "sex discrimination" for refusing to pay for abortions.
*The Reagan admin was key in enactment of laws protecting the right to life of handicapped newborns.
*Reagan designated a National Sanctity of Human Life Day, to recognize the value of life at all stages.
*Reagan was the first Prez to address the annual WashDC March for Life. An annual event Reagan addressed every year.
Fact is, Reagan was America's first pro-life President, post Roe v Wade. His essay, "Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation" spelled out Reagan's strong pro-life position, along with his opposition to Roe v Wade and abortion on demand.

Oh goodie! I feel like it’s my birthday!
Howdy, troll n00b. Trying to create perception? Scurry on your way now, back to DU.
I think folks have a very skewed memory of Ronald Reagan. He didn't use that veto pen near enough, during his Presidency, probably for the same reason most Presidents don't. They don't want to stop the business of government.
Ronald Reagan wasn't the second coming. He was a good President, and he spoke, unfailingly for the conservative cause. But no one will replace him, and I wish folks would stop comparing everyone to him, and claiming they're not as wonderful as he was. He was the best we've had in a long time, but he wasn't perfect.
I don't know a lot about Bobby Jindal, but he seems to be well thought of by many who are well known conservatives. It's interesting that there seems to be a movement to start trying to take him down. Maybe some folks are worried that in 2012 he might be considered a real threat, either as a Presidential candidate, or someone who would be seriously considered as a VP candidate.
LMAO this is so good, it says it all!
Love the smell of ozone in the mornin'.
I visited with a Northern Louisianna man traveling from Seattle back home this past weekend. He said basically the same thing about Gov. Jindal. He was very conservative, a black man, retired military. I commented about his new governor and he expressed dismay that he was going to allow the outragous pay raises to state officials. His comments surprised me. He had higher hopes for Gov. Jindal. So, even though many on here are going to attack you, I am going to believe what you have to say on this issue. There just might be something to this.
Don’t jump to conclusions.
ROTFLOL!
I’ve been here a while, and I’ve not seen that. ;o)
Bobby lied to us,,,
I will support Buddy Shaw (R) Shreveport next time...
Jindal is the BEST that LA can offer.
I’ve lived in Baton Rouge, and N’Wlins, during some mighty sleazy regimes.
Take my word for it...Bobby Jindal is a genuine breath of fresh air.
