Harry Chapin- Mr.Tanner
Herman’s Hermits- No Milk Today
The Hollies- He ain’t Heavy, He’s my brother
******************************
(I’m joining this discussion late)

No question, ‘Taxi’ for Chapin. I don’t know the intro to ‘Tanner’ (anyways we’re judging top songs here not top intros), but the ‘Tanner’ chorus, verses, and music seem pretty trite when compared to ‘Taxi’, a relative masterpiece.

Milk is a very good song, but not quite the quality of Mrs Brown and Something Good.

‘Heavy’ is a legitimate favorite, but Bus Stop has more originality in the lyrics and music, as well as an understated sentimentality (as opposed to the hit-you-over-the-head emotionality of ‘Heavy.’)

also:

High School Musical Cast - Stick To The Status Quo
Hannah Montana - If We Were A Movie

- ‘Stick’ was used as the Act 1 finale in the stage version.
- ‘Movie’ is a great song.

I’m just like you. I put my pants on one leg at a time. The difference is, after I put my pants on. I make gold records.

Hey bud!

What rumor would that be? I’ve never heard of one on this album. I haven’t looked at the thing in quite a few years. I’d have to dig it out of storage..ugh..

Silver’s still a color.
Any color anywhere in the band name counts.

[like Norman Greenbaum]

The Blues Magoos.

Honourable Mention . . .

Billie Holiday, "I'm a Fool to Want You" (From her final album, Lady in Satin---no voice left, feeling only, and she damn near snatched the song from Frank Sinatra. If this is really how she was feeling at the time, forget how young she died and thank God she lived as long as she did.)
Coleman Hawkins, "I Love Paris"
The Human Beinz, "Nobody But Me" (The second best white band-beats-the-Isley-Brothers-at-their-own-game behind the Beatles' "Twist and Shout")
Buddy Holly, "True Love Ways"

Name every band with a ~color~ in their name, such as Frijid Pink.

[one band name per person, please]

Only one?

No can do . . .

Pink Floyd
The Blue Nile
Blue Oyster Cult
Great White
Average White Band
Green Day
King Crimson
Deep Purple
Savoy Brown
Black Oak Arkansas

And, how about bands with food names?

Vanilla Fudge
Cream
Hot Chocolate
The Chocolate Watch Band
The Strawberry Alarm Clock (Admit it---you still think "Incense and Peppermints" is a classic guilty pleasure.)
Bread
Ultimate Spinach (Remember the ill-fated "Boss-town Sound" hype around Boston-based bands in the late 1960s?)
The Jam
Marmalade (Surely you remember---though you might be trying to forget---"Reflections of My Life.")
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Cherry Poppin' Daddies
The Squirrel Nut Zippers
Wild Cherry
Spice Girls
The Meat Puppets
The Raspberries
The Candymen (longtime backing group for Roy Orbison)
Sugarloaf
The Peanut Butter Conspiracy

Thanks for reminding me about Hinder good song. Yeah “Never Been Any Reason” has always been one of my favorites. Head East got that one right.

They did a really great job with Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 on these songs.
1. Space Truckin’
2. Walk Away
3. Hand Me Down World
4. Bad Reputation
5. Thank You
6. I’ve Got A Feeling
7. Day Of The Eagle
8. Ball Of Confusion
9. Rock Bottom
10. Stealin’
11. Bell Bottom Blues
12. Honky Tonk Women
13. Dear Mr. Fantasy

Vol 2:

1. All The Young Dudes
2. Make It Last
3. Shooting Star
4. Not Fragile
5. Street Fighting Man
6. It Is My Body
7. I Want To Take You Higher
8. Do You Feel Like We Do
9. Beer Drinkers And Hellraisers
10. Seasons Of Wither
11. Saturday Night Special
12. War Pigs
