My wife told me this morning that she heard that the reason Obama had 75,000+ people at that rally is because a rock band was there. Does anyone know where I can get a link to that story?
A quick search produced this:
I didn’t read it yet, though.
See the Breaking News sidebar (second link at this time).
Thank you everyone. No need for any more replies.
The groups name is The Decemberists. If you go to their wikipedia page, it even mentions that they performed at that rally.

Here’s an excerpt:
The members of The Decemberists appeared, individually billed (as “Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen”), to perform in support of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama at a rally at the Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon, on May 18, 2008.
One more reply.
Oh, this is priceless.
Apparently, the band, the Decemberists, open every show with the Soviet Union national anthem.
That was mentioned on the other thread, but it’s buried, so many people might miss it.
Here they are opening an act with the Soviet Union national anthem:

Here are videos of them playing at the Portland rally for Obama and supporting Obama:

I have no trouble believing mostly all of those people were Obama supporters, if they like this band.
I’ve been trying since Monday to find the play list for the concert. Their songs include anti-war, anti-military themes and the Wikipedia listing (since modified) read:
“Named both in reference to the Russian Decembrist Revolt (which may explain its use of the National Anthem of the Soviet Union as an introduction at many concerts)...”
I’ve emailed Victoria Taft (conservative KPAM evening talk radio host) in Portland to see what their concert play list was and if it included the Soviet National Anthem. She asked her audience to call in, but no one did (don’t think her listeners attended the concert/rally!). In any event, if I have any additional information, I’ll post it.
I wonder if Obama held his hand over his heart for that. ;)
