I have noted with surprise and admiration for the historically unprecedented surge of private giving across China by citizens high and low.

Totalitarian countries barely allow private charity, much less approve of it. Further, China has no tradition of “love thy neighbor as yourself.”

The media can never give a true picture of such devastation.

Every thinking person knows it's far worst then being reported.

Thank you for posting kevinwei. It is a tragedy the proportions of which are like none we have experienced in this country (in my lifetime) at least in sheer numbers and geographical area, and we greatly sympathize with the suffering of so many of the Chinese people. In addition to the material and medical assistance, our hearts and prayers go out to all of you.

Hang in there, kevinwei. Help is now pouring in. I am sorry for all those who have died and cannot be helped. But they are in a better place. We call it Heaven.

No decent person relishes in the mass suffering of others. Do you have internet there or have you moved from the area?

Kevin,

There are many local groups all over America who are hosting fundraisers right now to help the Chinese people. Pain and suffering speak in one common language - one we all understand and feel. Believe me when I say that if empty planes were waiting at our U.S. airports for Americans to immediately climb on board and fly to China to assist with pulling cement and rock from your collapsed buildings, we would fill every flight.

It pains us that we can’t be there to hold your frightened children, hand out water and help your elderly find a comfortable place to rest.

Your crisis weighs heavily on our minds and in our hearts.

Welcome to Free Republic

I genuinely hope you are one of the frightened rather than the badly threatened.

Now that you know we are here and know how to speak to us.....please continue on a regular basis. I for one look forward to your posts.

Huan ying!

Many in this country pray for those affected by this tragedy -— those who have died and for those who have lost their dear families. The effort by the Chinese themselves, in aiding the victims, has been inspiring. National, regional and locals coming together to help their fellow man.

Such a sharp contrast to what has happened in Burma!

My prayers for your people continue.
