Sorry for the vanity, but I need to brag about my cousin Amy whom I am very proud of and humbled by. She is a first grade teacher in New Mexico and last year she had a student, a little boy, who was being raised by his single dad who is an Army Reservist. Last year he was deployed to Iraq and she, being a patriot and an outstanding teacher, took it upon herself to make sure dad did not miss out on his son's first grade year. All during the school year she scanned all of his school work and took lots of pictures and regularly e-mailed them to dad in Iraq. Also during the year she made sure that he had the school supplies he needed, made time to fill in for dad for school projects and activities and even made sure he had plenty of gifts to open on his birthday and Christmas. This year, the child's second grade year, she acted as a liaison between dad and his second grade teacher and continued to keep dad involved while he served our country.
Yesterday, dad and a detail from his unit arrived at my cousin's school and presented her with a flag and a plaque that stated, "This flag flew over Saddam's Palace for three days in honor of Amy Green for supporting an American Soldier beyond her 'job description' "

I would like to see this become one of the most widely read, pinged post on FR. Please help. Maybe txroadkill can direct Amy’s attention to how many people are inspired by her.

Your cousin merits a campaign medal (not possible I suppose). God bless Amy Green and all those like her who serve without acclaim.

Cool, thank you so much for sharing. As a former teacher, and a former New Mexican and a person with relatives who are combat vets, I love this sort of story!
