Sorry for the vanity, but I need to brag about my cousin Amy whom I am very proud of and humbled by. She is a first grade teacher in New Mexico and last year she had a student, a little boy, who was being raised by his single dad who is an Army Reservist. Last year he was deployed to Iraq and she, being a patriot and an outstanding teacher, took it upon herself to make sure dad did not miss out on his son's first grade year. All during the school year she scanned all of his school work and took lots of pictures and regularly e-mailed them to dad in Iraq. Also during the year she made sure that he had the school supplies he needed, made time to fill in for dad for school projects and activities and even made sure he had plenty of gifts to open on his birthday and Christmas. This year, the child's second grade year, she acted as a liaison between dad and his second grade teacher and continued to keep dad involved while he served our country.
Yesterday, dad and a detail from his unit arrived at my cousin's school and presented her with a flag and a plaque that stated, "This flag flew over Saddam's Palace for three days in honor of Amy Green for supporting an American Soldier beyond her 'job description' "
Great Teacher Supporting Troops Bump
God bless your cousin
What a beautiful person, your cousin. Thank you for sharing this, txroadkill. Sniff, sniff, now if my dang screen weren’t so blurry...
AWESOME !!
What an inspiring story . God bless her , a patriot indeed .
Your cousin Amy is awesome!
Good for her. We could use more teachers (and college professors) like her. Truly “Above and Beyond”.
You certainly have every right to brag. Amy is AWESOME!
This grizzled old Vet salutes Amy!
PING!!
Thank you for posting the story. I wish we had more of these. I’m glad the student’s father honored the teacher.
Excellent
We rest easy at night because of this student’s father...
The father rests easy because of people like Amy...GOD BLESS THEM BOTH!!!!!!
Outstanding! What a story!
This sure beats the normal teacher story we get around here.....
you have mail.
There are so many patriotic Americans doing wonderful things for those who are deployed or those who wait at home.
It's nice to see them get recognition once in a while.
Well done, Amy.
Please pass along my gratitude to your cousin. She is a true patriot and I’m betting a better reflection of the average American than the DBM usually represents.
Thanks to your for posting this.
Now, I must say, “She sounds HOT!” (in my best Jack Black voice.) ;-)
Yay, Amy Green! I think you should send this to O’Reilly. Sometimes, I don’t think he knows what patriot means.
