Good morning everyone!

1000+ Iraqi security forces are fired following the Basra attack. They had refused to fight against the Shi'ite insurgents.

Pres. Bush will discuss the airline inspection debacle with the Transportation Sec. today.

O spent the weekend deflecting Hillary's vigorous attacks over his PA comments from last weekend. Time will tell how successful he is.

'Morning! Apropos of nothing, I found this 60 Minutes Will Smith interview linked on the Drudge page, pretty interesting (sample: spent 1st 3 seasons of Fresh Prince of Bel Air broke while IRS took 70% of his paycheck)...;-))

You are correct, I need to do that prairie, but it seems unlikely in the near future. It’s either that or get worse! LOL!! I can only laugh at this point.

Hi, HOB!

I only ship on certain days. I have a dedicated room in the basement for all of the mailing supplies. It isn’t that hard to do if you keep to a schedule. Alll of my listings end on Sunday, and I ship on Wednesday and Friday (although today I have some items that are going to ship due to people paying me promptly). I want to get these things out today because they are going to Norway and Canada. I will also ship to Israel later this week.

It is simply fascinating to me what people buy and where I ship things to. It’s also nice to make money without having to get dressed up and go to a job!

i am looking at the Jackson and Perkins catalogue again. My tulips finally bloomed and I didn't notice until yesterday. Mr HOB says they are beautiful. But you know why!? He didn't have to plant them this year.....I'm ok to buy more flowers as soon as I am out of this cast! LOL!!

There are many things that to me seem so obvious but the media never seems to do anything except hint at the situation.

It seems to me this year is the worst situation the Democrats have faced since 1972. But I need to remember that in the spring of 1972.. in fact in July 1972 the media and its polls showed George McGovern doing well against Nixon. It think the Nixon staffers did Watergate because they thought McGovern was going to win in the fall election.

But Nixon won the 2nd biggest victory of the 20th Century with FDR in 1936 only besting Nixon's vote percentage by one tenth of one percent. Roosevelt got 60.8 in 1936 compared to Nixon's 60.7 in 1972.

So I guess I should not be surprised to see the polls show what they do. But beyond that it is obvious either Hillary or Obama will be disaster come election time this fall.

Obama is the bigger disaster. There is no way that working class Democrats are going to vote for Obama. Obama knows it ... that is why he lashed out at them in his recent speech. White Working Class men and women are scared to death that Obama will affirmative action them out of their jobs or at the minimum least put vindictive blacks in as their bosses.

They don't like Hillary and a lot of them don't want a woman, but they will vote for a woman in the primary if that is what it takes to defeat Obama. I think the more the media touts Obama as a sure winner, the more votes there will be against him in the primary.

But more important than that,is what will happen this fall. A large number of white working class democrats will not vote for either Obama or Hillary this fall. If it is Hillary some will not vote at all. But many will vote for McCain. If it is Obama on the Democrat side nearly all will vote for McCain. Not only that many of them will not go back to the Democratic party.

My Reading of people is that Obama will do for Democrats in the Midwest what McGovern did for Democrats in the south... he converted them to Republicans.

This is a very important election. And I believe that a large number of Democrats especially in the industrial Midwest will be Republicans by November.

The media has put a AK-47 to the head of the Democratic party and they are in the process of pulling the trigger. They think they are shooting the Elephant but the media barrel is aimed squarely at the Donkey's head.

Hello!

I think you are 100% correct. My brother (union democrat) was an Edwards supporter, because he thought neither Obama or Hillary were electable. He hasn’t had much to say about politics since Edwards dropped out, and I think he will be in the “stay at home camp” come November, unless Bayh is on the ticket as Veep. (He is a big Bayh fan as was my dad.)

More interesting to me are the young folk in my family, who are all enamored of Obama. Some of them like him because he is the latest fad, but quite a few of them are supporting him because they absolutely despise Hillary. If Hillary gets the nomination, most of them will probably stay home.

I don’t see how the democrats can put together a winning coalition. Add to that the fact that I think the convention this summer will be a disaster, and it looks to me like McCain will win.

What is interesting Miss Marple is what all those working class Democrats who will not go vote this fall do to the Congressional races.

Don’t be surprised if Not ONLY Does McCain win easily, but the Republicans re-take the house.

If Obama gets the nomination I look for him to go after Ted Strickland who Ohio’s Governnor as his running mate. No one has won the presidency with out winning Ohio in the last 144 years. So if Obama gets the nomination, then look for him to select Strickland as his running mate. That will not help Obama in Ohio, but it could very well cost Strickland his second term as governor.

The elite left was totally unaware of men like Rev Wright. But white working class Democrats were well aware and have been for decades. They fear Obama and they will do what it takes to defeat Obama and his party.

Latest update from Ev re: next deployment:

"F.Y.I., the very latest intel is that I'll probably be deploying with C company, which is a very good thing. Cpt. B****** is still the C.O. for the time being, & he pulled some strings to regroup as many of us from the last deployment as possible. I am pretty stoked about this, Charlie was & is a good fit for me. The medical contingent will again consist of me, Oody, & Haupt, as well as 1 or 2 new guys. So far it looks like depoyment, the sequel. I really can't complain about that. Plans had previously been set to do an extra special bonus A.T. in November, which would have wrecked lots of guys' school plans, but since last weekend the official unofficial plan is that MOB will begin in January 09 & we're supposed to be going to Florida. A first I pictured beaches & margaritas... then I realized we'll definitely be stuck in an alligator infested bog somewhere in the everglades. But alas, it still can't be worse than Mississippi (hehehe)."

Geez Toby don't get mad at my kid for what he said about your fair state.:-)

Remember, he was there during Katrina.:)

CT, I think your assessments may well prove correct. Some friends of ours recently visited and they are both yellow-dog democrats, liberal to the core. (We’ve known them for many many years)

Anyway, they are as sick of the Clinton’s as they are of the Bush’s. And Obama was never mentioned as a possibility for them. They intend to vote McCain and the main thing they don’t like about McCain is his pro-life position. Of course. Sigh.....

MM, if you post to Howlin, please give her my congratulations and my best. She’s one of many good and talented FReepers we lost in what bore out to be an unnecessary purge. IMO.

Good morning everybody. I will finish up my window washing project today and go over to a friends house later for an evening of “Horse Races”.

I don’t see how the democrats can put together a winning coalition.

I'm not sure I agree with you, Jane.

I've seen the Democrats fight like cats and dogs, here in Iowa, so many times. When the fight is over, they get up out of the dirt, dust themselves off, and join forces to take on the next guy, UNITED.

I hope YOU are right. I'm just saying I've seen them fight like this before in Governor's Primary races, and it doesn't necessarily have a negative impact on them when it's time for the General Election.

Do I think all this infighting is putting us in a better position than them? Absolutely.

Do I think it's enough to put us over the top? I think it's way too early to call.

In politics, 24 hrs is an eternity. So many things can happen between now and then. All it will take is one awkward statement by McCain, and they'll all be back on the same side.

Good Morning Everyone!

I give my retirement speech this afternoon. It still needs to be polished a bit.

I have 3 big purple hyacinth blooming outside my front door at home. The fragrance is heavenly.

Good luck, IG. Will be thinking of you this afternoon! How's your Mom doing?

I spent 6 hours at the ER with my mother yesterday. It was exhausting, but the treatment and help she got was excellent, efficient, and delivered with concern & skill. My only question is: was the trip necessary....long story...

lots of links this a.m.

Listening to Michael Yon on Bennett's show....

Mozie, thanks for the Ev update...
