She was captain of her high school cheerleading squad, a nearly straight-A student and a soon-to-be pre-med student at the University of Florida.
But now, 18-year-old Stephanie Kuleba is dead, and her friends and family are pointing to breast augmentation surgery as the cause, The Palm Beach Post reported.
"She was a role model for a lot of people," her friend Vicky Goldring, 16, told the paper. "She was incredibly smart. She wanted to help people. She was just a happy 18-year-old girl."
Kuleba died Saturday of what friends believe were complications from the plastic surgery she had the previous night, though no official cause of death has yet been released, the Post reported.
A friend speaking on behalf of her grieving family told the newspaper that Kuleba had an extreme reaction to the anesthesia.
"The surgery itself was very personal," Perlman told the paper. "She passed away from complications during surgery.
Paramedics were summoned to the teen's aid at the Boca Raton outpatient surgery unit where she'd had the procedure, and they rushed her to Delray Medical Center. She died there on Saturday.
The West Boca High School senior, whom friends described as "perfect" and full of promise and possibilities, was mourned by classmates at a candlelight vigil at the school Sunday night. More than 400 people attended.

Yes which if taken to the logical conclusion of risk and reward considerations one should refrain from going under such for cosmetic purposes.
Breast augmentation is elective, so by definition no one NEEDS it.
Also, an 18-year-old girl doesn’t have five large for a boob job. Why did the parents finance this?
So sad that she had to die from lack of self-esteem.
And those responses would have gotten the abuse button.
This is not the DU. When a prominent Dem dies, most FReepers wish the families well.
That’s why it’s nice to hang around here.
See. . .it all works out.
Right
No worries...
Thought it was a good shot for “gallows humor”.
Some of us understand, but I’ll still fall on my knees AND bite ya!
Maybe we should get a room?
;}
Do you think she was paying for the surgery or was it her parents?
Transport the patient where?
To the Hospital? To the ICU?
At the most advanced hospital ICU's, who are the intensivists?
Anesthesiologists.
The article did not say the paramedics gave transport. It said they gave "aid".
A few days ago there was an article about an abortionist whose patient died because the only three people in the room were the patient, himself and the non-medical office assistant.
You have no reason to believe that .... but I bet you're right.
Some girls have breasts which develop very unusually. They are not merely smallish. Plastic surgery is a godsend for them.
I saw this girls pics, Her boobs looked just fine.
Med school my butt, I suspect this chicks dream was to be a Big-Boobed party bimbo at the Univ of Fl.
Still a tragedy though....
IMO, the boys who drool over bigger breasts are just as much a part of her decision as vanity. A girl sees that no matter who she’s become through hard work, all the boys still just talk about the size of a girl’s chest when considering a date. It can’t help but change her perception of what is important at that age.
Judging by the pic of the young lady posted earlier in this thread she was beautiful. She didn't need that procedure.
Yes but did she have the Adult Money to pay for her surgery?
I’ve watched some of those plastic surgery shows on TV. I swear they just put recovering patients in a linen closet until they’re “awake” enough to go home.
Not sure on that one. Lots of teenagers work to save money for cars or college. It’s possible she saved some money.
And remember, we need malpractice reform so the family can’t collect.
Apparently she was not as happy as some think she was if thought she needed a boob job...
bu-bye...
