Given that she describes herself as a human pet – and is happy to walk around on a lead – Tasha Maltby is used to odd looks and even odder remarks.
But nothing had prepared her for the reaction of the bus driver who allegedly told the self-styled Goth and her boyfriend: "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on."
Miss Maltby and her fiance Dani Graves were so angered they have complained to the bus company of being "victimised".
"It is definitely discrimination, almost like a hate crime," 19-year-old Miss Maltby said yesterday.
The music technology student had this defence of her lifestyle.
"I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life," she said.
"I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."
The bus driver, however, has obviously not been listening.
He has repeatedly refused to allow Mr Graves, 25, and his "pet" on to his bus in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
Last month, with Miss Maltby on a leash as usual, the couple tried to board a bus at the bus station.
The driver, who was off duty, was standing near the door.
Mr Graves alleged: "He shoved me off the bus. He called us freaks and he called Tasha a dog.
"He said, 'We don't let freaks and dogs like you on'.
"He basically grabbed my T-shirt and slammed me backwards.
"I got a bit angry and called him a fascist pig."
In a separate incident, police were called when the driver, who has not been named, refused to allow other passengers on board after the couple ignored his orders and sat down.
The couple, who live on benefits in a council house and plan to start a family, have been friends for years.
They started going out together in July and became engaged in November.
Paul Adcock, of bus company Arriva Yorkshire, said: "We take any allegations of discrimination seriously.
"Mr Graves has already contacted us directly and as soon as our investigation has concluded we will inform him of the outcome."

No, you didn’t say she was animal-like. That was a quote from her in the article to explain why she didn’t cook and clean (translation: she just sits and contemplates I reckon.)
I both agree and disagree with the bus driver. I have some friends in the Goth and S&M lifestyle. Even people who live the S&M lifestyle 24/7 are usually really careful about not doing anything like this around kids. Most people realize there is a time and a place for everything, and are cool enough to not do this in public.
These are basically just overgrown kids being silly. For the bus driver to physically block them from getting on a city bus (while he was OFF DUTY to boot!), and on another occasion to prevent OTHER people from boarding the bus because these two had gone ahead and gotten on and seated themselves against his wishes (requiring police to be called to intervene), tells me this bus driver has much more serious psychological problems than these silly Goths. If I had to ride the bus, I’d feel a lot safer with either of the Goth kids driving, than with this mentally unstable city bus driver.
As for “not doing anything like this around kids”, all these two are doing is playing dress-up, and I’m sure any children who might see them also regularly see the same sort of thing at school, in their neighborhoods, in video games, and with rock stars on TV music videos. It’s not these two are getting out the whips and chains and handcuffs and going at it on the bus.

I happened to be driving by so we decided to check out this big old Mental Hospital (Danvers State) up on a Hill before it was torn down for Condos.
We drove up the wooded road only to be turned away by some security guard.
On the ride back down the hill I look and there is this group of about 7 or 8 Goths just standing there in the middle of woods, no cars around.
Really freaky considering where I was.

Whose the photographer. Nice soft edges. WTF are we talking about here? People who don’t work and get to play sex games all day while I sweat out the guy in the next office trying to do me in. Seems like a fair trade. I’m worried about keeping my head above water when I could be playing pet in GB in a “Council House” getting glamour shots to do photo albums for our blessed memories.
Oh the bill’s coming due in a couple years of that there is no doubt. The “Congress” ordered the fed to print money for us to give to China for some more stuff. This should work out great. Do they plan to give out any council houses while they are at it?
I would suggest yielding to the professional experience of the driver. A bus driver sees slices of life and patterns of human behavior many of us have (thankfully) no experience with.
Save this crap for at home and in the clubs.
And GET JOBS YOU DAMNED LEECHES!
