Missing (Pregnant) Marine Dead, Authorities Say

January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.

They said she’s buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.

They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.

Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."

Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.

She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.

Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.

Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.

Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.

I was looking for a possible reason IF Maria purchased the ticket. If she did - was it possible she had made contact with an adoptive couple who offered to take care of her and pay her expenses? Or, did she make arrangements with a Catholic Adoption agency in El Paso?

Just speculation - she had to make some plans for the baby’s delivery and it’s not clear that she had done so with her family in Ohio or in Jacksonville NC.

If Laurean bought the ticket to El Paso - we could assume he planned to use it himself and left it in the car by mistake. If he bought a ticket for Maria to throw off any search for her - certainly he knew she was from Ohio and would have bought a ticket for her home area.

If Maria bought the ticket to El Paso - she must have had a reason. I suggested one reason - there may have been others - like an old boyfriend or girlfriend.

There are probably dozens of people who have been questioned - we can only hope LE is not divulging everything they have.

BTW Heath Ledger from Brokeback Mountain was found in cardiac arrest in his NY apartment released about an hour ago. TMZ et.al are speculating suicide or accidental OD. Watching a videotaped interview - he is clutching his stomach and scratching his head- lots of tics - he could have had heart valve trouble...a medical condition.

If you follow the investigation into the murder of Maria Lauterbach, you know that the police say Cesar Laurean used Lautherbach’s ATM card on Dec. 24…and also that he shopped at Lowe’s Dec 24 (and Dec. 16.) Did Laurean’s neighbor see anything??? We asked:

LOL. She didn't say a lot. Indicated the burning on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, I think. Neighbors weren't very aware of anything going on in the Laurean household. Something about him leaving the morning all heck broke loose.

I still think whatever burning he did to the bodies was done before he buried her, then created the fire pit. I saw on the websleuths blog that someone indicated Shep on Fox was saying authorities thought he had help digging, maybe even burying her. Also some reference to bloody clothes of Laureans. I don't know if they were referring to the shoes or what. Since I didn't see it, was there anything to a report about this?

Police, parents search for teen

It has been nearly three weeks since 17-year-old Ashley Ryan, a high school senior at Topsail High School went missing. Her parents and family members have spent countless hours posting fliers and searching Wilmington and areas around Florida where she has been sighted, so far without success.

Her aunt, Pamela Richardson, said Ashley went to Mayfaire Cinema 16 in Wilmington on Dec. 31 with three friends and chose a different movie, so she made arrangements to meet up with them about 5:30 p.m. When she did not arrive, her friends searched for her. The parent who went to pick up the teens called her father, Mike Ryan, to tell him she never showed up and their search was futile. He immediately called Wilmington Police Department to report his daughter missing.

Based on information obtained by the family through its efforts, Richardson said they believe Ashley walked from Mayfaire to the Juggling Gypsy Caf when she left the cinema and stayed in the Wilmington area for a couple of days.

"The Juggling Gypsy was one of her favorite places in Wilmington," Richardson said. "Her mom was passing out fliers there and someone told her she had been there."
