January 11, 2008)--Authorities in North Carolina said late Friday morning pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach is dead.
They said shes buried in a shallow grave, for which investigators are now searching.
They identified the suspect in the case as a Marine officer whom she accused of sexually assaulting her.
Police earlier were planning to interview a man who lived with her and said he would answer questions that "will shed a lot of light on the case."
Authorities said again Friday Marine Sgt. Daniel Durham isn't a suspect, but police believe he's the last person to speak with the Marine.
She disappeared Dec. 14 ahead of her expected testimony in a military investigation into her claim a senior officer had sexually assaulted her.
Court documents show the investigation went sour amid inconsistencies in the woman's story and allegations that she's bipolar and a compulsive liar.
Search warrants show she was facing a possible discharge from the service.
Lauterbach was eight months pregnant when she disappeared.
Officials: Fugitive's Wife Not At House When Marine Killed
Jacksonville Onslow County authorities said Friday they do not believe Christina Laurean was at her house when a pregnant Marine was killed. They believe she was at a Christmas party during that time.
One more question regarding ATM transactions. Do you know what the maximum amount is that can be withdrawn from an ATM? I assumed that when Cesear withdrew $400 on Dec. 24 from Maria’s account, that was the maximum. Would an ATM let her withdraw $700 on Dec. 14 in one transaction? Seems odd.
Laurean would have to be a superman to kill, clean up massive amounts of blood, paint and bury Maria before the wife got home from the party. And how, exactly, did the wife know that Maria was disoriented and agitated? I wonder if she was disoriented because she had just received the first blow to her head? Or, would those be the words from the husband? I wonder if the Laureans had a deep freezer in the garage to put Maria until she was buried and burned?
Oh, I agree. It was surmised earlier that the party would become her alibi and that’s what happened. Does not mean that she did not know beforehand or afterward.
Why would an almost due pregnant woman buy a bus ticket, when she had a car? It would be uncomfortable enough, being as far along as Maria was, to even travel such a distance, let alone riding in a bus. Do you know if they found Maria's house key?
” . . . where did she spend the night on Dec. 14?”
With the fishes. ;-)
Thank you.
No they did not say what date. Fox News reported it early yesterday only once and I happened to catch it. Said video was not released yet and would air on their show Sat night. Been searching and nothing out there leaked on it.
No clue on her bank/credit union....ours will only allow 500 per day and if on weekend you have to wait until after 6pm on Monday to withdraw again. The Ft Sill Credit Union site does not post their limits.
"On Friday, December 14, 2007, LCpl Lauterbach reported to work as normal. The work day ended at 12 noon as the command was having a Christmas party. Attendance was not mandatory and LCpl Lauterbach elected not to attend.
Per Christina Laurean (unless the writer made an error)
CNN "Christina Laurean told police she was at a Christmas party for her husband's Marine unit during the late afternoon and evening of December 15, Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown told CNN. Her husband did not attend the party, she told authorities."
Did anyone else notice that Christina is 25 years old?
So......does anyone know if the party was on the 14th Friday, or the 15th Saturday, and are some of these news writers just getting it wrong? Lauren’s wife is beginning to remind me of Joran VDS! “I lied, and that’s the truth.”
So what the heck is the deal with the blood spattered in the living room?
Arghh - you would have to bring up JVDS...
IN MY EXPERIENCE the Christams party is held at a venue related to their MOS. My husband’s was at the tank ramp. I have been to a couple at the Field House on base at Camp Lejeune (nicer and warmer than the tank ramp :)) I highly HIGHLY doubt it would be out in town. The Christmas party is a family event with ZERO alcohol served. I have, in 13 years, never been to a Marine hosted event with alcohol served other than the Ball and a dining in.
Children would have been expected at the Christmas party.
I’m sorry...i couldn’t help it and it won’t happen again.
The only thing I can think of with the two different dates for Christmas parties -— is that they were two different parties. Maybe the one on the 14th was an office party, while the one on the 15th was a more formal (out of the office) affair. Also, if they were in two different areas on base, they could each have their own parties.
I remember the article said Christina went to HIS party. I read it over and over because I thought it was so strange.
EXACTLY! Earlier I was wondering how they managed to go to the Marine Corps ball (usually around the beginning of November as the birthday is November 10th) without someone asking Christina. Then they released the timeline that said he was on leave for approx. 10 days during that time frame.
How could she ever be around anyone he worked with, at Christmas parties and BBQs at their house, without anyone asking her about it??????
