The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Well, you and I seem to be talking to everyone and really, it's only you and I here! Heh heh! I think I'll finish drying my hair, pop a couple of Advils and go to bed. Apparently I have arthritis in my big toe on my right foot and dispite the incredibly expensive shoes I bought (on sale for $19.99), it is hurting.

They’ll appreciate it. If they knew you were taking their names, they likely thought you were doing it so you could possibly sue them! LOL!

They’ll be pleasantly surprised.

They didn’t know I was writing down their names. I just started doing it so I’d remember them during their shifts. Then I was so pleased with their care, I thought it would be great to send them a card thanking them all!

You nailed it exactly. I have a synapse firing this morning so I'll try to post a bit. I'm headed out into shopping world today to pick up some wardrobe items and storage/organization items for the NewJob. At the NewJob, they/we go out to and back from the range like breathing. The test areas are muddy, grubby places and I was dressed to impress all week. I finally remembered to take my steel-toed boots to work yesterday and sure enough, "Lil, grab your shoes, we're going out to the range!" And sure enough, I came back from the range with mud all over my fancy-pants slacks. :) Top of the list are jeans and khakis.

Part of the problem is that I'm qualified for the job. I've got 5 yrs in the field where most of their new hires are just out of college and, at most, they did an internship there. So from day one it was, "Lil, since you already know about X, you can do this and this and this and that, and here are some draft reports to review and we're going to need to put a working group together and you can be in charge of that and what's your opinion on this strategy because you're in charge of that, too..." and on and on. More than once I said, "Guys! It's only my second day!"

Ack! It's like trying to drink from a fire hose.

Although I’m very, very glad to have OB back home, I’m equally happy that he was able to participate in the TwoBaldGuys Moot! You and mrsg’nad are special people to us.

That lockbox sounds like a good idea; there sure is a variety of styles to choose from these days. Saw one that used finger pad combination to open it.

Now to find right place to put the lock box - rolltop desk? credenza? paneled bookcase behind the desk? decisions, decisions. :-)

Wow - sounds like you hit the ground running, good show! RE steel toed boots, I was surprised to see how many styles of footwear have steel toes these days, even athletic and hiking styles. Course it depends on the spec. required for your job.

I recently got my guys new safety vests (orange with reflective silver was our spec.) but these had pencil pockets, small pocket on front and two inside pockets for a field book. Very handy to keep around.

Yes - I love the new ideas about steel-toed shoes. !!! I was sorely tempted by a pair of steel-toed Sketchers, but they didn't have my size. Plus they're pink, LOL. I did, however buy a pair of these:

as an alternative to my big, giant, mud-magnet, waffle-stompin' Red Wings.

I have to get a hard hat, too, but they issue those.

I got a great pair of steel-toed Carolina shoes similar to those and they are great for winter walks. Mine have a little iridescent inset that changes from blue to purple depending on the light. I bought them from Overstock.com for a pretty good price, IIRC. LSA

Kinda hard to see for the glare off’n the top of yer heads...no seriously, y’all look good. And 2J’s right (downthread from yer pic) you do look pretty healthy g’nad. Here’s hoping you’ll soon feel as good as you look. (and I mean that in a non-elfy dwarfish kinda way).

Again, osage, yer good people.

Heh... Had a sudden image pop into my head of you two guys standin’ on some street corner... And some street tough comes up and demands yer wallets...

Lawyer: Why did you shoot my deceased client 27 times?!

osage: We ran out of bullets...

*snort*

Reminds me of this one:

Judge: Miz Smith why did you beat up your husband?

Miz Smith: Because he called me a two-bit whore.

Judge: What did you hit him with?

Miz Smith: A bag of quarters.
