Spears' Lawyers Calling It Quits Court Filing Cites 'Breakdown' In Communication

LOS ANGELES -- Britney Spears' lawyers in her custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline are calling it quits.

A court filing by Trope and Trope obtained by CelebTV.com cites a "breakdown" in communication with the pop princess that makes representing her "impossible."

Spears and Federline have been wrangling for months over custody of their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James. sponsor

Federline has temporary custody because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders.

On a separate legal front, an attorney for Spears wants the Los Angeles city attorney's office to prove that the pop star is a permanent California resident and is subject to state laws that require her to have a valid California driver's license.

Spears faces up to a year of probation if convicted in a misdemeanor case of driving without a valid license, a charge to which she has pleaded not guilty.

She’s got to be very near the top of every 2008 ‘Dead Pool’ list at this point.

Sounds like the trailer park needs to update its wiring.

She is more likely to be institutionalized, in my opinion.

My daughter recently made the observation that Britney Spears life would most likely be the same if she had never become rich and famous.

She would still have 2 kids by some lowlife who left his pregnant girlfriend for her. She would still be battling CPS and the lowlife for custody of the kids. She would still be drinking and driving and making Taco Bell runs at 2am. And her 16 year old sister would still be knocked up.

The only difference is that all this would be playing out in some trailer park in Louisiana instead of the streets of LA and we wouldn’t be subjected to the daily updates.

No, the uber wealthy don’t go that route. See Howard Hughes.

This whole story is sad. The mother pushed her kids into showbiz and has lived off them. Living in a trailer doesn’t make you trash just as having a gazillion dollars doesn’t make you classy.

Meaning they’ve made all the money they can and are off for a new mark? Perhaps her little sister.

Spears has her problems but is she really a worse parent than Federline? I have been reading articles about what an outrageous scam child support is. The government is in charge of collecting child support payments and to justify its existence, it needs to brag about the numbers, so it awards outrageous amounts that are often hard for the payee, (usually divorced fathers) to make.

So I wonder, why in this post-feminist era are women still granted custody in the vast majority of cases? Is it because the highest earner is the father and thus maximizes the amount of child support collected from the non-custodial parent? Wouldn't it make more sense to just award custody to the higher paid parent, unless you wanted to maximize the support dollars collected?

Could this be why Britney was not awarded custody? So she could pay child support instead of collect it?

You can take the girl out out of the trailer park , but you can’t take the trailer park out of the girl.

I expect she’s not paying their monthly bills....lawyers love a rich client....and a case like this that goes on and on throws off billing like crazy....everything is on the hourly billing clock....if the lawyer calls you and talks 10 minutes thats one sixth of an hour in billing.....I don’t know what LA lawyers are charging but my daughter bills out at $600/hour in DC....and she’s just a junior pardner in the firm.

Not necessarily true. When I was single and batting zero, I couldn't even do that.

You could be right. This girl needs medication and therapy. I wonder if she is bi-polar?

It could be that Brit is running out of money and her lawyer doesn’t want to represent her pro bono. Her doofus former husband likely spent a lot of her money and all the rehab, drugs, shopping and clubbing doesn’t come cheap either. I also doubt she will have any new hit records in the near future. Watch for Brit soon to be appearing at an Indian casino near you.

I think she’s lost custody because she is chaotic, drives drunk, goes out partying, has screaming raging fits and drives off — his lawyer could make quite a case for him with her record.
