GULFPORT --Old Man Winter is expected to bring bone-chilling temperatures to South Mississippi for the next several nights, with lows threatening the record 19 degrees.

The frigid forecast prompted the National Weather Service in New Orleans to issue a hard-freeze warning for Tuesday night, which forced officials in Harrison County to open an emergency shelter for the Coast's homeless and those without heat.

---Snip---

Meteorologists are expecting more of the same frigid temperatures on Thursday and Friday.

The Coast could begin thawing out by the weekend with showers and warmer temperatures creeping into the forecast by Saturday and Sunday

“Global climate change” seems like a cop-out. The climate is changing all the time - summer, winter, fall, spring (not necessarily in that order ) all over the world.

We’ve already had temps down in the low 20’s here in Phoenix. Last year I lost 4 young trees in my yard because of the freeze.

My son thinks he’s going to get an extra day off school tomorrow, due to it being so cold.

He may be right. These southern buses don’t like the cold. :)

Didn’t think about that...I heard the low here tonight should be around 17.

I lived in Plattsburg for 5 years when I was there in the Air Force. Coldest I’ve EVER EVER been. One night we had to go out and get a guy off the flightline with a fractured ankle...got the ambulance running, left it running and got back in quick. It was -56 with the wind chill that night.

Yeah, I shoveled another 7 inches of global warming off my walkway this morning (mid-coast Maine).

Any discussion of Global Warming should include a rate of warming.

I believe the 'concensus' is about .5 degree celcius over the next 100 yrs.

Even here in sunny San Diego, the late fall and winter have been about as cold as I can remember, and I’ve been here over 30 years.

Funny, the lame stream media will report the record cold weather, and they’ll report algores’ trapsing around the globe burning the fuel a thousand of us do, but they’ll fail to make the connection AND assert Bush is stoopid.

What’s the word for irony on a grand scale? IS there one?

Maybe it should be algoremainstreammediaism?

Ha! I’m gonna have to rag my sisters. We’re planning to move South after having been ‘up North’ for over 30 years, but haven’t gotten the house ready to sell. They’ve been laughing about the cold weather here in MA while we’re stuck here. ;o)

That is one thing about living in the south. We can enjoy the mild winter, but when it drops it does it quick with little time to get used to it.

I hear we will be back in the 70s next week...
