Sadly, even if the kid who got killed opened the door, it’ll still be the zoo’s liability for not making the door idiot proof.

Is it just me, or is anybody else wondering what the SFPD used to shoot this tiger? I can’t see a beat cop using his police issue 9mm to bring down a tiger. Just my take.....

Why you bad tiger! We take you, stick you in cage all your life —unnatural sure...but so what...you just animal-—then you go and act on your natural instincts—even though teased? You bad tiger....we kill you.

One zoo official insisted the tiger did not get out through an open door and must have climbed or leaped out. But Jack Hanna, former director of the Columbus Zoo and a frequent guest on TV, said such a leap would be an unbelievable feat, and “virtually impossible.”

“There’s something going on here. It just doesn’t feel right to me,” he said. “It just doesn’t add up to me.”

I’ll take Jack Hanna’s opinion over the PR department of the Zoo in question every day of the week, and twice on Sunday’s.

I seriously doubt that lion escaped without a stupid biped helping.

Chief Fong recent grad of Barney Fife Academy

...since a shoe was found inside the pit, and blood trail lead 300 ft to the other two, ya think there might be some human involvement?

They found the kid's bloody shoe and shreds of clothing beyond the saftey fence and think he was either dangling his leg over the tiger's moat or something.

There is also evidence that the tiger was taunted and tormented by the boys throwing rocks and sticks at it.

This all occurred after the zoo was closed and while the final patrons were exiting.

The only questions for me really are:

Another suspicious fact is that the two injured lads refused to give their names to police - indicating that something untoward was going on and/or that some rather unsavory lads are involved in this whole mess.

What’s amazing to me is the distance the cat tracked the other 2 down. That was a kitty on a mission.

Why, my yard-cat can scale an 8 foot wall no problem. Why wouldnt a larger cat be able to scale a larger wall?

The usual dead animal themes here run the frequent tone.

Poor dead animal.....and yes....I like Tigers too.

Little or no remorse whatsoever for families who lost their kids.

Somehow if the kids taunted to tiger then it’s ok they died or they deserved it.

And yet...poor little Tiger....and even some angry the cops shot it....hell yes....why didn’t someone toss it a baby to gnaw on so it could then be coaxed back into it’s cage...I mean..it is a noble animal...lol

Nothing personal but you folks have your priorites screwed up.

Placing animals even cute majestic predatory ones like Tigers above man is nutty....it’s the sort of thing animists do.

Were the kids allegedly reckless? yes if they taunted the cat

Did they deserve to die for that?

not in universe

When I lived in remote third world areas where there was wildlife on whose menu we existed the locals were under no such illusion like some heartless naive folks are here

The boy that died had a Hispanic name. Combined with other details that are now emerging, this incident sounds gang-related to me.

Four cops, four .40 sidearms. Probably got 20 rounds into it in less than 2 seconds once they decided to.

I’m beginning to ask if all this coverage is meant to exonerate the tiger somehow. As if the liberal media can’t accept that the tiger chose to attack the men so therefore they have to find some way to blame the victims.

As Rush says “A tiger is a tiger.”

Whether the men provoked the attack or even helped the tiger out, they were stupid for doing it and the tiger did what tigers do. Why this is still a news story on the third day mystifies me.

I notice the word “human” showing up a lot in media these days, rather than “people”, “kids”, “zoo keepers”, “somebody”, etc. “Human involvement” is slightly-veiled, and slowing-encroaching animal-lover and guilt-ridden-human-speak for “bad, evil, homosapien activity”. It’s almost phyla and class species-speak meant to sound clinical and keep “humans” at no better than par with lions and tigers and bears, oh my.

There is a vegetation lined wall that wraps around the exhibit, it skirts the moat and highwall safety feature. If the tiger was able to scale it and negotiate a lightweight railing, it would lead to tiger to the main people walkway.

The Kitty was Taunted and Treated Cruelly, so she Responded in the Way a Tiger would Respond.

Interesting theories here. My bet is on the Jack@ss angle.

Years ago, at a mall in Spokane, Washington, I got to hold a cute little Siberian tiger cub and have my picture taken, with it’s mother, large and beautiful, in a cage nearby. As I was sitting there holding the cub I thought of the beautiful large and fearsome animal it would grow up to be, as it sat docile on my lap.

I feel sorry for the kid’s parents. I wish the officers didn’t have to shoot the animal, but I understand completely why they did. It will be interesting to get the real story of what happened.
