FedEx does not guarantee "Guaranteed Delivery" during Christmas (Vanity)
12-20-07 | Mrs_Stokke

Just in time for Christmas, FedEx informed me they do not guarantee delivery -- because it's Christmas.

My husband's business partner sent some paperwork last night from the Chicago area. She paid extra to have "Guaranteed Delivery by 10:30." At noon, I called FedEx with the tracking number. They said it was on a truck.

I asked how to apply for a refund for the expedited service, since the package was not delivered by 10:30. The FedEx representative told me there would be no refund, since there is no guarantee at this time of year. I asked if the package would be delivered today, again, no guarantee at this time of year.

So don't waste your money on expedited shipping fees. You're better off going to the Post Office.

That is fine if they want Christmas off. I heartily support that. However, FedEx should not call a service Guaranteed if it is not.

Same applies for UPS.

I've "been had" by both FedEx and UPS in similar situations.

Made me madder than snot.
I guess I should also start using DHL so I can hit the trifecta
of promised, yet undelivered service at premium prices.

DHL’s Service Guarantee will be suspended for Ground and DHL@home products that are scheduled for pickup or delivery from December 11, 2007 to December 24, 2007. DHL’s Express delivery commitments, including 2nd Day and Overnight shipments, will be extended by 90 minutes for those shipments scheduled for delivery between December 17, 2007 and December 24, 2007. Otherwise, the standard Service Guarantee will apply

It doesn’t sound right.

It doesn't sound right to me either, ken. I had the FedEx rep repeat her response -- "You don't guarantee delivery?" "We don't guarantee delivery." "Will it get here today?" "We don't guarantee delivery around the holidays."

So unless I entered a parallel universe and the FedEx 800 number leads to a customer service center in Hades, FedEx does not guarantee delivery "around the holidays."

FedEx does not guarantee delivery "around the holidays."

And neither does UPS or DHL.

And everybody else. I recently had a Nature Stone floor installed in my basement. The installers were floored ( no pun intended) when I pulled out the signed contract and told them that they were not doing it right. I really think that they expected me to roll over. It got to the point where my husband would just hand the phone to me when the company called because it was always about how they just can’t possibly do what I asked for. Again, I had a signed contract stating that what the job entailed.

Shouldn't this be in breaking news?

Nope. And there is no category for "Seasonal Irritations." I looked.

Thanks for posting the extra details.

I’ll have to record some FedEx commercials to see if that’s making it
into the microprint caveats of their current advertizements!
Or is included as a speeded-up verbal warning that sounds like
the humming of a bee.

(I’m not slamming FedEx; we customers sometimes see/hear what we
want to see/hear.)

In midtown Manhattan, this time of year..it can take 5 hours to drive a truck 3 blocks..let alone find a place to park..<P.
I’d suggest you send a letter to Fred Smith..FedEx’s CEO..gently chiding him on this..I’d wager that you get a credit..or at least a free shipment next time..

Well, I’m tracking the package I sent yesterday from Jacksonville for delivery this morning to Ormond Beach (~85 miles).

It still hasn’t been delivered.

The USPS gets a bit overwhelmed this time of year too.

It took them a week and a half to get my mother her present, when usually it takes 2 days to get mail to her.

Also keep in mind that the Post Office's guaranteed delivery packages are delivered (via airplane and ground) by, you guessed it, FedEx. They have had a contract with the Post Office for several years now to delivery express mail.

Right. Where I work, I do the company website plus I do the shipping. I use FedEx for the majority of my shipping, and believe me, I hear about it if it doesn't get there in time.

If she paid with AMEX, they will take the charge off—no questions asked.

Yes, it’s a busy time of year. If you can find someone to provide the service you need then go there.

. . . however, if a service is offered to me, and I pay a premium for that service, then the service should be completed or I should get a refund.

I agree. I was not aware that all the delivery services suspended their guarantees during the Christmas season. If I had know that, I would have driven up to Chicago and picked the papers up myself.

At least I'd be doing something instead of waiting around for a delivery truck that probably won't come today.
