Fox News - Live Desk | 12-18-07 | Martha MacCallum

Coulter just now on Fox News Live Desk denounces Huckabee as not conservative. She says "His faith is about the only thing he has going. It's the only reason for his rise in the polls."

Since most of the top candidates have very similar positions on the war and on terrorism the defining issues are illegal immigration and keeping taxes low.

Issues on which Huckabee is having difficulty explaining his past positions with which most Conservatives disagree.

she is right. Most people I know who are Conservative like Huckabee because he is the only “Christian” in the bunch. I tell them to vote for conservative principles, not on who is/is not a Christian.

A person’s faith should not be used as some kind of business or political credential. I try to live my Christian faith and hope that my actions show my faith, not my words.

Huckabee is no conservative. He is for more taxes, the nanny state, pardons for violent criminals, and perks for illegal aliens. Then there are the scandals, such as the coverup of his son killing a dog.

My (and Ann’s) favorite candidate is about as perfect a conservative as you’ll ever find.

I don’t care what she says (and I like her), I will support Huckabee even while I prefer Duncan Hunter. If that makes everyone else my enemy then so be it.

Huckabee took two issues that were important to conservatives and ran with them,
the Fair Tax (or tax reform in general) and Christian values.
I used to like Mike but as a responsible voter I had to read what he stands for. His latest criticism on the ‘bunker mentality’ of the Bush administration did it for me,(especially the ‘not sending enough troops at the beginning’ mantra. Remember we did think they had WMD’s and our soldiers were in harms way??)
Being ‘nicer’ to our enemies, especially the enemy we face now, ain’t gonna cut it!!
Don’t get me started on his illegal immigration ideas!!
Mike is a ‘compasionate conservative’ of the worst kind!

Tell them to remember Jimmy Carter had huge Christian support in 1976. They need to remember how that worked out.

Ann not a conservative?! What a moron.

Note to self: scratch Mike Chucklehead off list of possibilities.

I'm sorry...

I know there must be something wrong with me but every time I hear Gov. Huckabee mentioned the following image appears in my mind.

Again...I apologize. See what happens when you let television raise your kids.

It fascinates me how little discussion there is of Huckabee’s proposal to abolish the IRS.

We are immediately lead to his “more taxes” logic by those who take note of his emphasis on sales taxes rather than income taxes.

Stop being so reactionary FR. There are conservative points to Huckabee’s arguments.

Pat Buchanan is not going to be President. I am thankful he will not be— same for Ron Paul.

Because it's rather difficult to believe considering that Huckleberry advocated increasing income taxes.

Pat Buchanan is not going to be President. I am thankful he will not be— same for Ron Paul.

Hence my support of Fred.

Hunter?

Yeah...Me 2.

Unfortunately it’s not just about being Conservative but about someone who is both electable and as conservative as we can get.

Huckabee is a social conservative (like Bush) with a strong populist tinge. In fact there are many on the “Christian Right” with the exception of their beliefs on certain ethical/moral issues aren’t really conservative in the Ronald Reagan sense of conservative.

One look at the front runners tells me it’s about being as indistiguishable from the democrats as possible.

Obvious question: if you prefer Duncan Hunter, why not support him?
