Bonus questions

How did you buy your gifts or are buying your gifts this year?

Are you more an online or mail order shopper than a shopping mall or High Street shopper?

Do you buy gifts and cards or donate to charity instead? (Fully understand if you do not want to answer this one as this can be a very personal issue)

Any ideas for last minute emergency gifts?

Is there anything you simply have to buy or make for Christmas because it would not be Christmas without it?

Bought all of my presents last weekend. It was the first time since '97 that I didn't do nearly all my shopping online. After my mom's birthday present took two weeks to go from NJ to FL via regular mail, I used UPS for all shipping. Got to all of my relatives within two days.

All I have left to buy is some booze for my boss, and I am set.

Hmmmm, well I am prepared to work on Christmas Day. :-/

The nice thing about working a holiday as an hourly employee is that it’s the same work, but more pay! :)

Well, I just showed my family how to use the ‘wishlist’ feature on amazon.com. I’m planning on keeping it updated from now on so nobody ever has to bug me about what I want again.

As far as the bonus questions go, if I see something that looks like it’ll be really great for a certain person, I’ll buy it for them regardless of time of year and save it for the next holiday/birthday/graduation when a present is expected.

No ideas about last minute gifts... I’d usually find some inexpensive jewelry for girls or a t-shirt or something from the clearance section of Hot Topic for guys.

I've bought my gifts all year and stashed them. Last minute gifts were ordered online.

I hate the Christmas crowds at the Malls and refuse to drive around for 2 hrs looking for a parking place. UGH...

Our office collected and donated 1440lbs of canned goods to the local pantry.

Last minute emergency gifts usually consist of ornaments and baskets of fresh fruit, chocolates and wine.

I HAVE to have a batch of homemade divinity. :)

For about ten years or so, we haven't exchanged Christmas gifts. There were no children in the family, and the rest of us were just happy enough to get together. Having to go traipsing through the stores to find things was more trouble than joy. If someone sees something during the year that he or she wants to give, he buys the item and gives it at the next opportunity.

With the birth of a nephew this year, I guess we'll change a bit in the years to come. I had planned this year to get him a picture of some kind of Louisiana scene. He's too young for a real kid gift at Christmas to have meaning, so I thought I'd get a painting or print that my sister could hang somewhere and let him take someday if he wanted it. I might get around to finding something of that nature, or I might just make a contribution to his college fund. I guess I'll be buying kid junk next year.

I haven't decided whether I'll be an online shopper or in-person shopper. If I get the painting, I'll get it at a local shop. If I buy junk like stuffed animals next year, I might order them online. Another option is buying plain white shirts and some iron-on print paper and making custom T-shirts for him. I have copies of some pictures that my sister has taken, and I could put those on the shirt. He probably wouldn't care much what's on his shirt, but my sister can use extra clothes for him and might enjoy the pictures that she had taken. Again, that's something that I'll worry about next year. Right now, I don't even know what size he's wearing.

Bill
