Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

You know what I find absolutely fascinating is how the Romney bots and the LDS apologists on this forum have succeeded in branding anyone who would dare to ask a legitimate question regarding the beliefs and practices of Mormonism as a bigot.

I don't even care about that. I'm willing to grant, for the sake of this discussion, that asking Mitt about Mormon distinctives is "illegitimate".

That doesn't matter. If Mitt is the nominee, they aren't even going to ASK him the questions.

What they ARE going to do, week after week, is teach America, so everybody knows, about the seer stones, the fleshly God, Reformed Egyptian, the wives, Kirtland, all of it.

This isn't bigotry, and it isn't even really an attack.

By November, 2008, though, the poll answer to "would you vote for a Mormon" will mean something, because by then every voter in America will know everything there is to know about the LDS, whereas now they know little or nothing.

Let’s stop slamming Mormans and instead attack Scientologists.

Attacking Huckabee faith is very disgraceful and disgusting and I am going to fight anyone who does it.

I've never attacked Huckabee's faith.

It's that cultist Romney I have a problem with.

Go to the “Romney” threads and see the anti-Mormon hate.

Here we go again.

Anyone who points out the glaring differences between biblical Christianity and Mormonism is a "hater."

You forgot "bigot" and "bomb thrower" too.

Good grief.

Let me ask you jveritas, who is going to be the arbiter of truth here on Free Republic from now on?

You?

Please show me to one of my vicious posts. Otherwise you are defaming me.

Is your god so weak that he needs YOU to squelch dissent? Will the Mormon God, be the one that we sacrifice our freedom of speech and discourse to, on the great alter of political correctness?

RU dealing with any ice?

Oh, yeah. The trees are a mess. I've got a small 4wd tractor with a front loader, so I'm dealing with it better than some. I'm going to have to take it and go visit some of the neighbors this weekend.

The truth is that until recently the Mormon church taught that blacks were inferior and their black skin a result of God’s curse. The truth is that the Catholic Church has a pedophile priest problem. The truth is that the Episcopal and Methodist churches have gay problems.

Are those attacks against Clinton, HWBush, Giuliani, and Romney?

Only if you try to attribute problems of church to them personally without any other evidence.

If someone believes in our Lord Jesus Christ than he or she is a Christian.

Pretty broad brush. Mormons have 170 years of well-parsed answers to the questions, as the "Is Lucifer Jesus' brother" answer so clearly illustrates.

Is it, "'Who do you say that I am?... 'You are the son of an extraterrestial, who is "father" to us all... you are the kolobi messiah!'"

Sheesh, even the "devils" believe and tremble...Regardless, you will need to include Muslims in your category as well. Their recognition of "Jesus" is only a little more weird.

Granted. I disagree on several doctrinal points, some of which are Salvation threatening, but as far as individuals go, generally a moral, fair and intelligent bunch. However, I don’t know how modern women survive in it, basing your salavation on whether your husband gets in, and the underware thing, and all.

God manifests Himself in different fields that permeate reality ~ that is, God transcends Time and Space (and all the other dimensions).

That's not polytheism.

Polytheism posits that there are individual gods that each garner different elements of reality, and manifest in only those specific elements.

Sort of like God for good and Satan for evil?

That would make at least two deities, ergo polytheism.

I'm not stating anything radical, here. Arianism, which the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches have been arguing against for at least 17 centuries and Unitarianism both subscribe to a single being-ed(?) God.

Christianity is to religion as English is to languages or Microsoft is to software companies. It's able to take aspects of local customs, deities, vernacular, properties and add them in effortlessly. Sort of like allowing priests in Africa to marry while maintaining a policy of celibacy elsewhere or using a Roman holiday or a Persian God's birthday, December 25, as the birthdate of the Messiah.

I hope you are not saying that those who are pointing out the inherent differences between Mormonism and Christianity are committing attacks on Mormons.

I thought this was a conservative political forum. Frankly I don’t care to read about theological discussions. All religions differ.

The Sa'ami were using the middle of the shortest day of the year LONG BEFORE there were Persians, or Jews, or Buddhists or Unitarians.

Santa Claus (manifest as Little Red Man) has been around a lot longer than all those other guys ~ maybe more than 14,000 years.

Well if a person is attacked because of their faith that is one thing, but to have an open discussion of scripture is another and a believer should defend the Word or he does not believe.

The two diety thing is called, I believe, Dualism and is considered substantially different from Polytheism.

For example, the good/bad gods both manifest themselves in all sectors. You don't end up with a Goddess of Love, and a God of the Hunt for instance, accompanied by the Goddess of the Household, and so on endlessly. Both the good god and the bad god exhibit all those traits, but differently, as opposites, and depending on which side you are on you're going to view the one as better (for you) than the other.

Then there's the situation where you have one god but he is manifest in a male/female duality. That's a strong thread in Hinduism.

Off the track, but Gingrich got smart and dumped his first wife, who'd been his highschool teacher, and moved out into the normal world. The delivery of some papers to her in the hospital where she claimed she was being treated for cancer happened AFTER the big breakup.

You cannot logically condemn Newt on that score with wife #1 without also defending all these gals in the public schools hitting on the boys.

So, may I ask what you think about female school teachers engaging in coitus with their male students?
