Dear FRiends
It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.
I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.
I really appreciate your post. What really iritates me, is when people bash boat owners. I can’t tell you how many times I have started a thread to address the issue, and then stopped half way through.
Free Republic cannot continue to exist if boat owners are going to be trashed like this. Many fine people own boats.
Shame on folks who trash boat owners. I’m sick of every one of them!
There are also taught a whole slew of secret handshakes which have secret meanings.
I am a Mason and I can affirm that all of the above was plagiarized.
Masonery is not a religion though, regardless of what some think, so that may not count.
If boats are outlawed, only outlaws will have boats.
I agree with you. However, while I think that your call for civility, especially as it regards religion, is worthwhile I don’t really believe that it’s a necessary request. Those of us who would abide by it probably do not need it in the first place. Those who would refuse to observe your request are probably ridiculing you right now. They’re probably enjoying it, too.
Unfortunately, the nature of FR is that it is a pretty wide swath of people who will choose to do as they wish.
Over the last year I’ve noticed a change in FR; there is a “coarseness” in an increasing number of exchanges. In many cases, I believe, an actual desire to offend others.
I’m quite certain that if I read down this thread there will be many who agree with you and there will probably be a few crass proclamations and more than a couple derisive heckles - and all in the name of free speech. Go figure?
I love FR and many of the FRiends that I’ve come to know and share my time and ideas with. I work from home, so this is basically my 24 hour “watercooler”. There ain’t much I can do if the obnoxious slob from IT happens to be spouting his small minded opinions at the same time that I am here.
Drink quickly! Move it along.
Assuming you are a Mormon and know the answer... If not, then say so;
Does the Mormon faith have any rituals or agreements that are not to be shared with non - Mormons?
Yes or no please...
[Good start and it gets better as it goes. If anyone is in need of examples of what passes for intelligence, decency, discussion, open, honest, and dignified, it is here for all to see.]
And of course the reason the gracious Moderator will likely not pull my post is because it logically tied jveritas in a circle. But simply claiming to have a religious connotation to telling jveritas he had the brain of a pea, BY HIS OWN VANITY LOGIC, I put his ability to question my insult off limits.
Now, that is certainly a viciously painful post I made distinctly because it points out the embarassing fact that jveritas’s logic is full of holes. ANY candidate in jveritas’ crimped universe can put ALL political debate off limits merely by claiming it is part of his religion.
Now the reason I used the “brain of a pea” insult (I could think of much worse) was really not to insult, but to provide enough of a contrast to force jveritas into the logical bind. For the perceived insult, I apologize, however I do not apologize for the larger point.
What's wrong with anti-morman posts? Some people quite intelligently understand mormanism and post their knowledge on the subject.
I actually went on a morman thread and discussed with them their beliefs.
They kept saying they would answer all questions and actually answered none with any clarity.
They eventually quite posting to the thread.
In this vanity post accusing those who do not believe in mormanism of making "vicious anti-Mormons attacks" and now equating that with "hundreds if not thousands of anti-Mormons posts recently posted on FR" is IMO a little disingenuous.
Are anti-morman statements vicious attacks?
You seem to infer they are.
Perhaps you could link to a few hundred or a thousand or so of those "vicious attacks" so we could see if they are people pointing out the discrepancies in the religion or actually making "vicious attacks" so we can judge for ourselves.
Thanks.
Oh and I did not know that you are a morman!
There are hundreds, if not thousands of instances where you and people of your ilk have made these hateful comments.
I'm not gonna provide any links to those posts however, no mater how many times you might ask.
So you have hit the abuse button thousands of times to complain about the thousands of vicious attacks on Mormans?
agreed,
but I will still be laughing during the southpark episode.
BTW does anyone know which of our presidents was a quaker?
You boat owners have your own secret language and rituals. You meet together in secluded spots on weekends. What with your “lines” instead of rope. Your bows when we call it front, your “sterns” which us boatgots call it the back in end. What the heck is a port or a starboard anyway? REAKS of mysticism if you ask me. Oh and somethimes you use STARS to guide you. Burn them!
Romney has two problems which his campaign has sought to conflate in order to first get him nominated, and then get him past the sleaze machine of the DNC which the media plays sycophancy to entirely too much. Romney was elected in a thoroughly liberal state by pretending to be a liberal, or perhaps he is a liberal and that's why voters took to him. He certainly has tried to now run away from the truth of his liberal history in Massachusetts. Problem number two is very much related to the strangeness in Mormonism and Mormonism Apologists dissembling and deceiving to try and make conservative Christians lose clarity on the heresies in Mormonism from the perspective of Orthodox Christianity. These two problems are currently conflated further with the ridiculous mouthing by Huckabee ... a sure sign Mike isn't ready for prime time if a second rate journo can trap him so easily.
Frankly, Romney claims to be a conservative but he has a history which stretches even into the very recent weeks which bespeaks a liberal dissembler through and through ... he doesn't comprehend 'pro-life' if he casually condones dissection of 'leftover embryos' for research programs. His putting taxpayer support for abortion on demand into the Mass Health program belies a support for the killing rather than an abhorrence toward it. His actions against governmental workers in Mass if they dared to refuse marriage licenses to homosexuals isn't pro-family or Christian conservative. And lastly (not really but I'm going to bed after this one), Romney's manipulating the public by playing the Mormon card to cover his liberal history bespeaks a pandering sleazy politician, not a devout Mormon conservative.
“They kept saying they would answer all questions and actually answered none with any clarity.”
You asked the wrong questions:

R.M.N.
I think that is due to the increasing internet population and to the fact that this site has been mentioned so often in the media.
I think there are some people, probably more than most of us think, that are purposely trying to coarsen our exchanges. These are people who are really liberals and/or internet trolls who don't really care about anything one way or the other, but they just love to stir a good simmering pot and sit back and watch the action.
And, then, there have always been idiots among us and as more people find our site, an unfortunate side effect is that our idiot population increases.
The leftist media is trying their hardest to inject religious hatred into political debate.
FR should not enable this tactic.
You didn't even mention the poop deck.
Agree.
I’m not mormon, and disagree w/ the theology. But we’re not electing a pope. The level of religious bigotry expressed on FR has kept me away from most of the presidential threads - just don’t want to be associated with it.
Richard M. Nixon was Quaker. I don't know if he was the only one in history however.
Nixon...
