jveritas meant no disrespect nor any smear on Freepers. He is a good man who has proved himself a worker on the side of Justice and full disclosure of Saddam Hussein's reams of documents. What our special freeper may fail to understand about FR and America is the vitality with which faiths defend themselves because of our open society. Sadly, what he has proffered with this thread is a plea to squelch this openness in favor of giving a pass to a man of questionable credentials.

Romney has two problems which his campaign has sought to conflate in order to first get him nominated, and then get him past the sleaze machine of the DNC which the media plays sycophancy to entirely too much. Romney was elected in a thoroughly liberal state by pretending to be a liberal, or perhaps he is a liberal and that's why voters took to him. He certainly has tried to now run away from the truth of his liberal history in Massachusetts. Problem number two is very much related to the strangeness in Mormonism and Mormonism Apologists dissembling and deceiving to try and make conservative Christians lose clarity on the heresies in Mormonism from the perspective of Orthodox Christianity. These two problems are currently conflated further with the ridiculous mouthing by Huckabee ... a sure sign Mike isn't ready for prime time if a second rate journo can trap him so easily.

Frankly, Romney claims to be a conservative but he has a history which stretches even into the very recent weeks which bespeaks a liberal dissembler through and through ... he doesn't comprehend 'pro-life' if he casually condones dissection of 'leftover embryos' for research programs. His putting taxpayer support for abortion on demand into the Mass Health program belies a support for the killing rather than an abhorrence toward it. His actions against governmental workers in Mass if they dared to refuse marriage licenses to homosexuals isn't pro-family or Christian conservative. And lastly (not really but I'm going to bed after this one), Romney's manipulating the public by playing the Mormon card to cover his liberal history bespeaks a pandering sleazy politician, not a devout Mormon conservative.

You know what I find absolutely fascinating is how the Romney bots and the LDS apologists on this forum have succeeded in branding anyone who would dare to ask a legitimate question regarding the beliefs and practices of Mormonism as a bigot.

Now Huckabee has been ridiculed by freepers as well as the MSM because he believes in a literal creation of the universe. People brand him as a fool and a kook because of his beliefs on the creation and the book of Genesis, but nobody is allowed to question Romney on whether or not he believes that Jesus was Satan's spirit brother in the pre-mortal life. To even ask the question is to be branded a bigot and to suggest that someone really ought to answer the question is to be branded an Anti-Mormon Jihadist.

The manner in which the LDS posters have responded to simple questions about their faith and questions about Romney have, quite frankly, made me a bit nervous about supporting him in the General Election.

I'd like to see what Romney would say if someone were to ask him if he would be willing to appoint an EX-Mormon to some position of authority in his aministration. I suspect that question would be met with the same kind of stonewalling and whining that we see with Huckabee's question.

There is a double standard. Everyone's religious beliefs are fair game except Romney's. Many of us touted Bush because we believed he was a Born Again Christian. He has taken a lot of heat from the mainstream media about his prayer and bible meetings in the white house. The religion of a candidate has always been fair game in the political realm. To give Romney a pass because his religion is unique or bizarre is blatant hypocrisy. It is an issue and we all need to deal with it.
