You are right. The blame government for everything and not the person that commits the crime is ludicrous.

He trusted the government and they screwed him.

The government prosecutor told Vick and Vick's attorneys that they were recommending a 12-18 month sentence. They also informed Vick and his attorneys that this was only a sentencing recommendation and that the sentence would be at the judge's discretion.

Vick made no deal with the judge and the judge promised him nothing.

If Vick had gone to trial he could have served much longer.

The big bad old government didn't screw Michael Vick.

Michael Vick screwed Michael Vick.

You should learn more about something that conservatives like to call "personal responsibility for one's actions instead of whining and blaming everyone else and the government for your mistakes."

If you shot Vick for killing YOUR dogs, you would be far more justified than society imposing harsh punishment on him. If Vick or someone tried to steal MY CAR, I would shoot him for that because it’s MY car. The crime is then against YOU, but Vick is being punished for a crime against Society and the DOGS.

In my opinion, Animals are essentially Valuable Property of Humans. You can hate that opinion all you want, but if you give that view an honest, intellectual treatment, you will see it is logically coherent...unless you are one of those Vegan leftists which I KNOW is not the case.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison Monday for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.

The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback could have been sentenced up to five years by District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Vick was dressed in a black-and-white striped prison suit and apologized to the court and his family.

Hudson responded, "You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to you."

"Yes, sir," Vick said.

Vick acknowledged he used "poor judgment" and added, "I'm willing to deal with the consequences and accept responsibility for my actions."

Before the hearing started, Michael Vick's brother, Marcus Vick, sat with his right arm around their mother, comforting her as she buried her head in her hands and wept.

Vick pleaded guilty in August, admitting he bankrolled the "Bad Newz Kennels" dogfighting operation and helped kill six to eight dogs.

In a plea agreement, he admitted bankrolling the dogfighting ring on his 15-acre property in rural southeastern Virginia and helping kill pit bulls that did not perform well in test fights. He also admitted providing money for bets on the fights but said he never shared in any winnings.

If you knew the law, which you obviously do not, judges ARE NOT held accountable to sentencing deals made by prosecutors

If you were capable of reason which you are obviously not, you would see that this in no way invalidates my point about not trusting the government.

The judge does not represent the government in a court case.

You're totally in lala land. The judge "doesn't represent the government?" Who built the courthouse the judege sits in? Who pays his salary? Who wrote the laws that the judge deals with?

. . . have allowed themselves to be subtly, and not so subtly, brainwashed by Leftists to believe that Animals have legal rights beyond their status as property of Humans.

[1rudeboy wonders what that has to do with operating an illegal dog-fighting ring for the purpose of gambling]

I don’t know. But when he comes back, which I doubt, I don’t think Atlanta will want him. He hid his actions from his team, and shamed them as well as himself on an international level.

anyone who tortures the innocent is sick and twisted should be taken off the streets. Vick is dangerous.

Look at it that way if you don’t like animals.

oh no. he’s not going anywhere near atlanta ever again. i think his playing career is effectively over. who would want the bad PR plus the uncertainty of his abilities after 3 years out of the game?

The judge does not represent the government in cases. The judge is an independent body. The prosecution represents the government. They are two separate entities in legal matters.

That’s actually a good argument you make. But as we both understand, Michael Vick was NOT treated to double the sentence because the Judge or Society has a hatred of Gambling. Vick’s sentence was double the recommendation of the Prosecution because the public was vocal in their disgust over the killing of Dogs.

You should learn that insulting people you debate with from the getgo is the mark of an a$$hole. A lesson that you are apparently too stupid or too arrogant to understand. Every time you post to me you show just how much of a complete douche bag you are. Go back to sleep

I only eat fish and poultry (no mammals), and I don’t torture my food for pleasure.

I eat it to live. Weak argument.
