BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU's national title hopes were crushed by a Heisman-worthy performance.

Darren McFadden rushed for three touchdowns and threw for another to lift Arkansas to a 50-48, three-overtime victory over the top-ranked Tigers on Friday.

Peyton Hillis also scored three TDs, the last in the third overtime. Felix Jones ran for the critical 2-point conversion to make it 50-42 Razorbacks (8-4, 4-4 SEC).

LSU (10-2, 6-2) responded when Matt Flynn found Brandon LaFell for a 9-yard TD, but Matterral Richardson intercepted the 2-point conversion attempt, and Arkansas' bench emptied onto the field in triumph.

McFadden, last year's Heisman Trophy runner-up, rushed for 206 yards 32 carries and now has 1,725 yards rushing this season. No doubt there are West Virginia and Ohio State fans who'd vote for McFadden for Heisman if they could.

I don't believe we need a tournament. I prefer the current setup, flaws an' all.

The problem I have with a playoff is that you cannot objectively seed the teams for a playoff. It would be seven teams plus Notre Dame every year.

Go Hogs Go. Very exciting game today. Three heart stopping overtimes. I’m still pumped.

Which begs the question: Why not cede the NC to the doomers and use the BCS for runner-up? On a serious note, I agree. I think a lot of the enjoyment of CF is bourne of the established traditions.

I also believe that a mythical championship maintains a sense of what that level of competition ought to represent. I like to think that there are many winners under the currrent system as opposed to only one certified winner. I know it's not pure as the driven snow, and that $$$$ remains an ascendant force. Eventually, the $$$$ will prevail, but I (knowing that my vote is not relevant) will continue to adhere to the notion the inherent uncertainty of the current yield is better for CF than a sterilizing playoff system.

"Les Miles can’t go to Michigan fast enough! Go Les Go!"

Michigan can have another Carr, just Les Miles...

Miles made some terrible calls in that game. Most didn't have an impact on the final score, but at the time they were bizarre.

Perfect replacement for Lloyd Carr.

“Also, seems to me knocking off #1 is newsworthy, but hey that’s just me.”

It’s considered “Front Page News” in the South!

Yes, but Hawaii plays a weak schedule. Also, it hardly seems fair for teams to have to travel all the way out there, especially if they play a night game.

However, I supppose one could say that the Colorado teams have their altitude advantage, too.

I guess you just gotta play the game. :-)

Does anyone else think that Les Miles seems like a real jerk?

Got any predictions about who might replace Coach O?
Coach sure knew how to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. I tend to think OM should fire Pete Boone and Chancellor Robert Khayat, if they are ever going to dream of having a nationally ranked team again. The last three minutes of yesterday' s game must have the the most most embarrassing three minutes in Ole Miss history

Ohio State in the BCS championship? OK... I was away from my computer this weekend in Mississippi. Even my Mississippi nieces were thrilled when LSU lost. They both aparently hate LSU. So they called their LSU friends to say nah-nah-nah-nah-nah. You have to hand it too Deron McFadden. He can be truly awesome when he's on.

Another good thing about an LSU lost is that James Carville is crying. And he's a total scum.

If Oklahoma beats Mizzou, the Buckeyes are in.

...and if Okla beats Missouri, Pitt beats WVA we might just move that Rose Bowl game between Ohio St & USC and moe it to New Orleans.
