Lowe's refuses to call them "Christmas trees," chooses to call them "Family trees"

Lowe's refuses to call them "Christmas trees," chooses to call them "Family trees"

Dear R J, In an effort to avoid the use of the term "Christmas tree," Lowe's has renamed their Christmas trees and are now calling them "Family trees." In their Holiday 2007 catalog, containing 56 pages of Christmas gifts, Lowe's advertises hundreds of gift items, including scores of "Family trees." In fact, the word "Christmas" only appears two times in the entire holiday catalog. The ads mentioning "Christmas cover only 12 square inches of the 5236 square inches available. Lowe's even has one of their Family trees turned upside down on a stand. We are not sure what the significance of that is. Lowe's evidently did not want to offend any non-Christians, therefore they replaced "Christmas tree" with "Family tree." Of course, if Christians are offended that is evidently ok. An on-line search of Lowe's does reference some "Christmas" items. In fact, a word search of their Web site gives the exact same number 174 of the word "Christmas" as it does the word "holiday." Most of the items mentioning Christmas appear to use the promotional line given by the manufacturer. Their Holiday 2007 catalog features scores of products, including lights, wreaths, trees, and yard decorations. Most people would associate these items with Christmas, but not Lowe's! Except for two obscure references, they refer to everything in their catalog as "holiday." Click here to see the front cover of the catalog and a page featuring their "Family trees" catalog ad.

I don’t shop at Lowe’s. I’m very annoyed by their bi-lingual signage, (the Spanish is in the same type size as English).

I noticed that myself & pointed it out to my husband last time we were there. I would really hate to offend the Lowes people by spending any money with them for CHRISTMAS, so I'll just celebrate my CHRISTMAS holiday by spending my CHRISTMAS money somewhere else.

Feliz Navidad Lowes!

I agree with you. There does seem to be the word “Christmas” all over the place.

You can’t buy your Christmas tree at Lowes. You could, however, buy your Family tree there..... ;)

In every commercial, and in every sitcom. The kids now teach dad the life lesson of the show, if there even is one.

I think “The King of Queens” is probably a fairer show because the women characters on that show have their problems too and the guys can call them on it. “Seinfeld” also was fairer when it came to going after both genders pretty equally. Best show out there right now however is “King of the Hill.” Got a good strong dad character on there - not a perfect guy but dang good, I tell you what.

I can see the point, if one wanted to offer some of the less popular family members to Odin, while celebrating the Solstice.

Especially useful if said family member has land or money ...

Their online catalog has a number of items with the word “Christmas” in the description. Just do a keyword search at lowes.com.

That’s good.

I just wish the described print ad (which I have not seen) had not (allegedly) gone out.

Speaking of Costco being run by a BDS liberal I was just there about 2 hours ago trying to get the new Kathleen Willey book about being a target of the Clintons and this little stocking clerk told me they’re not into stocking books written by conservatives. This was at the Costco in Missoula, Montana.

I bought a Cub Cadet ride on lawn mower LT 1050 model. This thing had a 50 inch deck and a 26 hp Kohler engine, it wasn’t cheap. Three months later when the PTO went out Lowe’s here in Missoula completely abandoned me. Would not help with the warranty and would not reutrn our calls. That was the last large purchase I ever bought at Lowes. Screw Lowes.

Lowe’s even has one of their Family trees turned upside down on a stand.

I thought upside down trees were common, especially for people with limited space. Heck I’ve seen them hanging from the ceiling, etc so as to provide more floor space....

A little googling will give you lots of photos of upside down trees.....

At our Lowe’s store we have always wished our customers a “Merry Christmas”. During the Lowe’s weekly “Op’s Talk” (internal communication program) they talked about the “Christmas Trees” arriving this week, and they (the G.O. in North Carolina) also discussed the store setup for “the upcoming Christmas season”.

It wasn’t an accident. Some PC puke somewhere had “FamilyTrees” in the ad and the rest of the editing process fell by the wayside. Why?

Who is going to be the first to speak-up against the slavish multicultural mindset and say, “Duh, um, do we really want to say “FamilyTrees”?

You must have read my tagline......;)

I too, cannot stand the way sitcoms portray men. Shows like ‘Yes Dear’ and ‘Raymond’, the men are bumbling fools, terrified of the women.

I recall one Lowes commercial(maybe HomeDepot) where the husband is afraid to say he’s done with the house renovations (actually he is HIRING them to do the renovations because everyone who watches TV knows that men are too stupid to make decisions and do home improvement). Another commercial, the dad\husnband is messy up several projects and the wife actually tells the husband to ‘put down the hammer’. Also where the husband is in the store calling the wife to make sure he gets the right appliance.

Others like CircuitCity show a grown man hiding and playing the video games in the store while the wife does the important job of buying the electronic equipment. the wife finds the guy and scolds him while he drops the game and pretends he wasn’t playing. He cowers down and walks away with her with his head down.

Makes me sick....
