The owner of two pit bull dogs that fatally mauled a 21-year-old woman is concerned he will be charged criminally for something he deemed "an accident" that no one could foresee.
"I don't know what happened, but I think there was a fight and she tried to step in between and they turned on her," Charles Smallwood said this afternoon.
Smallwood said he owned the two dogs, Mafia Lee and Passion Maria, for about three years since they were puppies....

Like it's never happened before. For pete's sake, THEY'RE PIT BULLS, THAT'S WHAT THEY DO.
LMAO! Outlaw the cretins!
Er, yes.
I’m with you.
LOL!!
Your dogs killed the woman, that's what happened. Speculate all you want, it just comes down to your an idiot.
“Smallwood said he owned the two dogs, Mafia Lee and Passion Maria”
Not as good as baadasssss muh fuggah!!
I have been told, repeatedly, that attacks like this are rare.
Not recommended.
See, now this is the sort of thing that would never happen to me! Why is that? Is it because I raise my pit bulls with love and gentleness? No. It’s because I refuse to own pit bulls. Solves that problem right there.
The article says that the one of the dogs was either in heat or pregnant. That is often when the animals can become aggressive...any animal. For crying out loud, why didn’t this bozo have the animals neutered?
Seems to me it’s more a situation of an irresponsible dog owner than a “hostile” dog.
And yes, if two dogs are fighting (or any two animals are fighting), it’s not recommended that anyone step in between them.
"We need a stronger law, like the city has where they can demand the owner of a dangerous dog have a $100,000 bond," Head said.
New laws aren't needed to deal with this tragic event and a bond wouldn't have helped Ms. Lowe.
I'm still in the camp that holds bad owners raise bad dogs and that pit bulls aren't inherently vicious. Training and breeding for aggression are behind attacks like these.
That should be you're an idiot. When you call someone an idiot, it always pays to be grammatically correct about it.

Notice that the media seems to focus on this breed a lot. Fact of the matter is that any animal can become aggresive at the right moment. Much of the time it is training to be aggressive, but sometimes these things can happen for reasons that have nothing to do with breed or training. Often it is just a little too much play (overstimulation) or, as the article said, one of the dogs was in heat. And while the owner of these dogs claims they were not aggressive, they are some reports to the contrary.
Even my sweet white cat can sometimes bite. We have to remember that for all the domestication, our pets are still wild animals in some way, shape or form.

Is it possible you want to rationalize this "accident" as much as the animal control officer, who seemed to be puzzled that this could happen? You might want to read the next sentence in the article.
"This is just speculation, but the female was in heat and the lady was probably trying to break something up and one of the dogs took her down," said Head, who has been with the county animal control department for 27 years. Smallwood, however, said today that Passion Maria was pregnant and that Mafia Lee was the sire.
And ah'm sure u wood be thankin' that, raht up tu da time when ur pit bulls baht a plug outta ur head.

“She said she wasn’t a dog person, but she never voiced she was afraid of the dogs,” he said.
...
Both dogs slept in the bed with her, he said.
Huh? If you weren’t a “dog person” would you let the dogs sleep in your bed?
