At this point it seems likely to me that they have pretty much made all the arrests they are going to. In any event, she has found, and at least the two main perps have confessed.

I have agreed to keep everyone who is interested updated on any future developments because I live in the area this occured. It is possible that it could be months, if not years, before there is a final disposition and these men are sentenced. By then, it will likely have dropped off the radars of media coverage, and when convicted they may only be a blurb on the local news. As such, many of you might otherwise never know what ultimately happens in this case, and if you are here reading this now, then I am sure you would be interested in knowing the outcome.

Luke has been keeping many of you updated, but I think he is getting kinda tired. Cannot say I blame him. Being focused on a topic like this one for as long as he has can be quite taxing, physically and emotionally. SO, he has sent me his pinglist, and I am adding those people who have PM'ed me asking to be on mine. He has suggested, and I agree, that we begin with this fresh thread.

Rowan Ford (9 yr old murdered girl) Update Ping

The mother’s life has been savaged.
The community has been shaken.
The two men will die in prison or be executed.

What puzzles me in these instances, is just how desparate some guys seem to be. Was all this worth whatever perverted pleasure they could get out of it, even if never caught?

David Spears, 25, of Stella, and Chris Collings, 32, of Wheaton, are charged with one count each of first-degree murder, forcible rape and statutory rape in the girl’s death. Spears is Rowan’s stepfather.

The article said they were in Newton County, not hell. What's taking them so long?

In a small town just north of where I live, an eleven year old was murdered last Thursday eve. She was found by her mother, in the local cemetery.

No arrests yet.

This in a town that hasn’t had a murder in 30 years.

During the search for Rowan, Copeland said, David Spears rode around with another man. “He (Spears) was pointing out to this man where would be good places to put a body,” Copeland said. One of those places was the sinkhole in McDonald County where the girl’s body ultimately was found, the sheriff said.

Sounds like he wanted to be caught.

The one that keeps coming to my mind is wondering whether there is anything that some of us might be able to do for Rowan’s family. I’m wondering whether there’s any appropriate address where we might be able to send a simple card of sympathy, for example...

I have been looking at the photos of the child during different stages of her life. The one photo that was the intitial photo released and the latter ones are quite different in my mind.

I would not be surprised if her classroom teachers were suspecious of her being abused. You look under the eyes and into them you can see the face of a child in torment.

Coroner: Spears Led Him To Site

Possibilities: Collings kidnapped Rowan w/o Spears knowledge; or Spears & Collings planned the kidnapping.

Possibility: The reason Myrna did not check on Rowan was because she knew Rowan was not in the Spears house. Explains why she came over to Spears' & loaned her truck to her son who did not have a drivers' license & who had been drinking--so Spears could go looking for Rowan.

Problem: If the thing was not planned, then we have a problem of why neither Spears nor his mother did not call the police or seek any other assistance.

Timeline (tentative):

10:45 Spears, Collings, & another man leave Spears house to take Collings home.

Spears & other man get more beer after dropping Collings at his home (approx. 10 miles away).

Midnight/ 12:30 Spears returns home.

1:00 a.m. Spears calls Myrna & asks to borrow her truck.

1:30 a.m. Myrna arrives/ Spears 'goes looking' for Rowan.

6:00-7:00 a.m. Spears returns home; Myrna leaves. Spears goes to sleep on the sofa.

9:00 a.m. Colleen gets home from working night shift; discovers Rowan missing.
