Quoting further from the article, "Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

What a stupid headline. She did not REVEAL her character was gay. It is a character. IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY KIND OF SEX. She is pretending it is gay.

So is Dumbeldore the teacher who grabbed Harry’s potter?

One wonders why it was necessary to tell the world that Dumbledore was gay. The books are written; let them be.

"he added that, in her mind, Dumbledore had an unrequited love affair with Gellert Grindelwald, "

Ha Ha Ha. In her mind. Yeah I bet she had some serious thoughts about all that.

I'm going to say this again....

So Dumple-a-dore had a bathroom fling and the another wizard and he never called him back, so he killed the witch.

Ha Ha. Can't wait for the next book. Hairy Bottom and the Bathroom Brawl.

Well, I've often said that while the Potter books are not nearly as Christian as Lewis' Narnia books, or Tolkien's LOTR, I have found commendable Christian virtues in the Potter series. And, I felt that my view was bolstered by the inclusion of two biblical quotes in the 7th book.

The gratuitous news that Dumbeldore was homosexual, and Rowling's little dig that this will give Christians one more reason to criticize the work, really irks me.

I found the books to be generally well plotted, with good characterization. As works of literature, I think they stand on good ground. But Rowling has definitely gone down a bit in my estimation. Foolish, unnecessary, anti-Christian thing to do. She's an ass.

IMO, we were lucky she didn’t flip Harry in the last book. How she could have passed up that opportunity is beyond me. There is a sickness in the land. The almost reverence with which some folks hold up homosexuality, is hard for me to comprehend.

Look, I’m not here to condemn homosexuals. I am here to lament the idea of lofting them at every opportunity.

Do we loft heterosexuals based solely on their sexual decisions? I realize the left does (Bill Clinton), but I’d like to think the right is a bit beyond that.

IMHO, Ms. Rowling is slightly daft. She is treating an entirely fictional character as if it was a real person.

How nice to be able to stick us in the eye by remote control. “This outrage is not my fault. Dumbledore’s the queer, not me.”

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

That is just gratuitous.

Like I said in another message thread here, I think Dumbledore stopped being gay or took a vow of abstinance after his relationship with Gellert Grindelwald turned really sour over the untimely death of Albus’s younger sister Ariana Dumbledore. Because of that sordid past, this explains why Dumbledore never took the job of Minister of Magic, because that past history would have become public in the wizarding world and Dumbledore would be forced out of office in very short order. Dumbledore instead became Headmaster at Hogwarts, a good place that will ensure his sordid past was unnoticed during his lifetime.

From a literary standpoint, I must say it makes sense regarding the character, because his young life revolved around the Gindelwald character.

But it's not in the books, so I'm trying to convince my daughter it's not "canon" even though it comes from Rowling.

But announcing Dumbledore's sexual history to a "young fan" at a concert hall packed with young fans? Sure doesn't sound right to me. I've told folks here before Rowling has inserted left wing concepts in her books, but everyone got all upset. Now that she's telling kids her most illustrious character is gay AND aiming it at Christians, let's rethink that.

“Gay” is a contemporary political term for someone who is an active homosexual, and advocates for homosexual activity. Since, in the books, Dumbledore is neither of those, he is not ‘gay’, in the stict sense of the word, so it doesn’t change my enjoyment of the books in the least.

Actually, Dumbledore is non-existent. He never existed. He is a fiction, and can be imagined to be whatever anyone wants him to be. He can be an albino dwarf with a club foot, if that’s your fancy. Rowling was clearly just pandering to the PC mob pushing the homosexual agenda, to show how “modern” she is.
