Are you getting “temporarily unavailable” messages when trying to post replies?

When posting to FR are you getting temporarily unavailable messages when trying to post replies?
Is your computer very slow like a snail on FR even though you have DSL?

FR has been running slow for me for a couple of weeks, not days. There's been nights I just gave up and went to bed rather than enduring a long wait with each click.
Life isn't perfect......but I DO wish we'd at least get a brief explanation of what the problem is. At first, I thought it was my computer and I bet others did, also.
I'll check back here to see if some explanation will be posted any time soon as a courtesy to us.

Perhaps Jim needs to RAISE the target for donations, in order to upgrade the system’s capabilities?

I was getting the “Temporarily Unavailable” on Fr quite a bit yesterday. I also got it on other web sites as well. I guess Algore had better upgrade the Internet soon. He might get another Nobel piece of _________ award.

It's OK for us that live close to the mother lode... I'll bet all that hot air gets a little uncomfortable near the mother lode, eh? ;-)

I noticed the same thing. I’ve also noticed a rather large increase in double and even triple posts.

I'm thinking the "temporarily unavailable" page is an error message, probably due to a timing issue between the database and the page generator software, but that's just a guess. I have seen the problem transform from a before-the-post-took to after-the-post-took-but-before-the-page-came-back. That seems to have led to an uptick of duplicate posts since the error page is completely void of detail and people try again, based on past experience of posts not taking.
It is a sysadmin's nightmare in that you have to apply patches to stay ahead of the hackers and patches sometimes break more than they fix. You can't roll everything back because FR is like the tide, it keeps on coming in. Imagine the screams if even a few hours of posts are lost. All told, John and crew do a marvelous job in keeping FR up and running as well as they do. Now get it fixed, John :)

Yes, the same at the college on the T1 line—even during low use times.
John, anything going on?
Thanks for all you do.

Yes, sometimes, and I’m on a dial-up, a v-e-r-y S - L - O - W one, so you can imagine why I find myself falling asleep while waiting for something to happen.

Well, I got a forbidden link message when I tried to access FR from my Yahoo home page. Sent them off a note requesting the reason.

If you are near Verizon you should get their DSL intro price is $15 mo for a year and $18 mo afterwards!

It’s been like this for several weeks or years. Comes and goes. Temporarily unavailable seems to be preferable to going offline altogether for hours.

I live in the sticks and am at the mercy of one of the few remaining private phone cos. that PA still has whose basic function seems to be keeping all of its customers in its turf captive. They have DSL, but it's expensive like everything else including just having a phone - at least compared to Verizon. My only other choice would be a connection through satellite TV which is not cheap either, plus I watch next to no TV and don't plan to change anytime soon, so I guess I'll stick with the slow, expensive dial-up.
Verizon's price for DSL is cheaper than what I'm paying for the dial-up.
