IRVING, Texas (AP) -- After seeing the videotape of Terrell Owens' latest touchdown celebration, the NFL office wasn't laughing.
Owens said Wednesday he was fined "a good chunk of money" -- which he later defined as thousands of dollars -- for a celebration that included him using the goal post and football to poke fun at the New England Patriots' spying scandal during Dallas' 37-20 victory over Miami this past Sunday.
A league spokesman said the fine was $7,500.
"It wasn't even the fact I used the goal post as a prop," Owens said. "They said I used the ball."
Beyond being confused about what he can and can't do, Owens is frustrated by the league's policing of end-zone scenes.
"It's kind of hard to understand the rules," he said. "It's like you can't do nothing no more. ... Dude, it's like they're trying to find any way to take fun out of the game. So I'm kind of limited right now as far as what I can do."
T.O. plotted his celebration days before, after getting suggestions from callers on his weekly radio show. He said he likes making them timely.
Now, though, he's going to be more careful with what he does.
"Nothing's worth getting a fine for," he said.
Owens said he'll consider an appeal, but "it may not even be worth it."
How about saving his act until he gets to the sideline?
"I guess so," he said. "Next, they're going to be saying you can't go to the sidelines."
You mean football is actually a game?
At least TO seems to be enjoying playing football, and staying away from controversy this season, excluding this minor thing, of course.
___________
LOL. Give him time. It’s only 2 games into the season. I have faith in him.
I am glad to see it. I quickly got tired of the chicken dances, the butt dances, and the prissy mincy shows. Theyre supposed to be pros and should act like pros.
_________
And while we’re at it, let’s bring back the single wing.
I dislike TO (although his spurning of my hometown Ravens was a blessing in disguise), but I think some of his antics are pretty funny, I loved the one where he pulled the pen out and signed the ball. And Chad Johnson is a flipping hoot.
Too much sometimes, sure, a knock on their professionalism, don’t think so.
(chuckle)
Only if they require Congresscritters wear all the gear while in DC.
No disputing that notion....lol
I enjoy some of the spontaneous humor that comes with a lot of sports activities. I just think the end zone dances are ridiculous.
LOL. How many times have we seen someone make a tackle that they are supposed to make, and then go preening around like they just did something that no one has ever done before? “Hey look at me, look at me. I just made a TACKLE! What a mighty man am I.” Dolts.
The announcers of that game had no clue. One was saying that T.O. was fishing, reeling something in. The other was closer, suggesting he was making a movie, filming.
Sometimes, you just shake your head at the TV and mutter: “idiots”.
Only if he wants to lose draft picks. That’s a cap rule violation.
If you spend some time thinking about it, they should be embarrassed for celebrating. It’s the functional equivalent of me cheering that I didn’t mis-spell a word.
this juvenile behavior
Heh. I just found that funny since these are grown men playing a game.
I long for the days past when football players did what they got paid to do, score touchdowns, make a good play on a pass receiver, sack the QB and get a good, solid, bone-jarring tackle on the ball carrier, and get back in the huddle or go to the sidelines and let the game continue. I’m sick of all the strutting and dancing that goes on now.
No Fun League.
I’m with you. This is silly. But it’s their league.
When people stop watching and they stop making billions, maybe they’ll reconsider. Until then...

Issac Curtis (1970’s Wider Receiver that was Jerry Rice before their was a Jerry Rice) just spiked the ball over his shoulder and walked off the field.
The definition of ‘class’ that holds true today. No taunting...he didn’t have too. No exaggerated ‘celebration’ for the simple reason he’d been in the end zone before, and knew he would be back shortly.
If you don't think the players have fun playing in the NFL, then you don't know much about football.
I wish I saw that. I bet it was funny. Personally, I enjoy the dances and celebrations. I think they make the game more fun.
