McNabb stands by what he says
Defends comment on HBO that black QBs face added pressures

Donovan McNabb says black QBs' performances are judged by different standard from whites'.
DONOVAN MCNABB smiled as the first question came at him, some innocuous query about the Detroit Lions.
He smiled, because he knew what was next.
The day after HBO aired a "Real Sports" episode in which McNabb spoke about the criticisms lobbed at black quarterbacks, the Eagles quarterback sat in what he knew would be a hot seat inside the NovaCare auditorium (though contrary to reports, McNabb did not storm out of the news conference. Public relations director Bob Lange asked for a final question and once it was asked and answered, McNabb got up and walked out).
"No, no, no," McNabb told the Daily News last night, when asked whether he had left in a huff. "Bob cut it short, and I was, like, that's it, so I walked out. I wasn't angry. I was smiling."
During the news conference, McNabb said he knew when the story was taped in August that whenever it aired, it would be met with skepticism and criticism, but that even now, front and center to the backlash, he doesn't regret his comments.
"If a question is asked, I'm going to answer it," McNabb said. "I've been in this business a long time. If I don't answer the question, it's an issue. If I don't answer the question, it's an issue. It's just reality. I only speak on facts. It's only something I've been part of and other quarterbacks before me and after me have been part of.

here are some other quarterbacks...from the 70's...might give Marino some competition
While most people remember great performances in big playoff games, Marino's greatest performance came in a regular-season game back in December of 1985 (this would have been his greatest game even if he had won four Super Bowls). That was the famous Monday night game in which the Dolphins shredded the Chicago Bears and their vaunted 46 Defense under Buddy Ryan by a score of 38-24 -- the sole blemish on the Bears' record in their 15-1 season and legedary playoff run to a Super Bowl title.
This was a Bears team whose defensive unit was arguably the best of all time. They gave up 31 points in the first half of the game, and could not come up with an answer to Miami's passing attack.
There were at least a half-dozen Hall of Fame caliber players on that Bears' defense. I suspect many of them would tell you that Dan Marino was the best quarterback they ever faced.

He should have been in Canton fifteen or more years ago. That he is not is a CRIME.
His success in what Bill Walsh referred to (accurately) as the ‘North bank of the Ohio River offense’ which all of you call the ‘West Coast Offense’ made what we see each Sunday viable.
Marino was a great quarterback, the stats don’t lie.
Anyone that says otherwise is just a tad ‘bitter’ he didn’t play for their team.
Right. I wonder how many of those quarterbacks listed in Post #62 retired with nearly every major NFL passing record to their names!
Indeed. That he put up those numbers, in that era, is truly amazing.
Especially when you review the stats on other Don Shula quarterbacks, specifically Griese.
You want a chuckle, review his passing stats from the Super Bowl against the Redskins....
He's played pretty well in most of the big games that I remember. He played well in the Super Bowl. I think he has a winning record in post season play.
Were you posting back then? I do not remember you defending Owens. Not saying you didn't. I say this because I was one of the lone voices in the wilderness defending Owens. Especially during his stay in Philadelphia. McNabb and his giant-sized EGO was always the problem, not T.O.
But back then, TO was the personification of all things evil to that vast majority of the NFL Freepers. McNabb caused the problems and still does to this day. Only Superbowl appearance by McNabb was when they had TO.
Man, I loved the Run-n-Gun Oilers. They were a joy to watch. But they seemd to be snakebit in the playoffs. The other time they lost to the Broncos - if Heywood Jeffries would have caught that ball in the end zone instead of dropping it they would have advanced.
A team whose standard offensive set includes four wide receivers, no tight ends and one running back is not geared to do the one thing that is absolutely necessary come playoff time (particularly if they play on the road outside in cold weather) . . . RUN THE BALL.
Even if such a team is capable of mounting successful drives in poor weather conditions, they are pretty much incapable of doing something else that is key in any NFL game . . . RUN OUT THE CLOCK BY KEEPING THE BALL ON THE GROUND. It's no coincidence that this "run & gun" offense is most vividly remembered for blowing an enormous second-half lead in a playoff game.
I had no idea how average that team actually was. What I found most amazing (and pretty strong evidence that they were a very overrated team) was that they were undefeated through the regular season and through two playoff games, yet they were UNDERDOGS in that Super Bowl game against the Redskins!

The Eagles have only been successful in times that the NFC East doesn’t have very good teams. Dallas hasn’t had much of a team until recently; the Giants have been up and down; and the ‘skins haven’t done much lately either. Like last year, when the NFC East has (relatively) strong teams, the Eagles fold.
Do you mean the very same Marino that single handily beat the Chicago Bears(nicknamed the "greatest team ever") on MNF to mar their perfect season?
Bradshaw is the most overrated QB ever. Surround any average NFL QB with those Pittsburg Steelers teams and they get 4 SuperBowl rings too.

Having said that...McNabb is way out of line. First of all, the Philadelphia Daily News is slightly left of Hillary Clinton, even infiltrating their sports page.
McNabb owns the most Eagles' QB records, has a $65 million contract (someone correct me on that if I'm wrong), a head coach who will never criticize him, Mommy & Daddy who coddle him, and a fan base that deserts him ONLY when he underachieves.
Li'l Donny Mac should research former Eagles' QB's such as Ron Jaworski, Roman Gabriel, Doug Pederson, Mike Boryla, Norm Snead, etc., etc. to see if the fans were rough on them. As a 56-year old Eagles fan, I could tell him the fans and media were rougher on THEM than they ever were on him. Ever.
Oh, BTW, the aforementioned QB's are white.
Oh, and McNabb is 0-2 so far this season, when most "experts" picked the Iggles to win the division.
But I guess that's not an excuse.
gosh, haven't we've been told that Micheal Vick, and McNabb and now Young and whoever else happens to be a black qb are football gods ...
they can fumble, throw interceptions, lose games...yet questioning whether they should be the starters are just politically incorrect...
Philly would have been better if they had kept Jeff Garcia....
