Folding@home will announce this week that it has offically joined the ranks of PetaFLOP computing! While teasing with the mark before, this appears to be the real deal.
A formal announcement should come this week from Stanford University as the numbers are crosschecking for publication.
Why does this matter? Because every computer and PS3 that has joined the fight to research Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's Disease puts us that much closer to a CURE for these brain wasting diseases.
Imagine if Ronald Reagan was strong for another 10 years in retirement and had been fully able to participate after his Presidency.
Imagine if YOUR loved one could think and remember and participate in the fullness of their life even into their 80s and 90s.
Imagine if YOU could have full use of a lifetime of learning to be fully cognizant of life, no matter how old.
Our Folding@home team is dedicated to this goal of research, and volunteers our computers and PS3s to collectively join over 240,000 other systems to make a difference!
I don’t think I’m going to be stuck at position 66 much longer...
Nice progress wysiwyg, what are you running that’s gobbling up the points so fast?
Thanks. I'm running it on 3 4 PCs of various capabilities and a new Intel iMac with a dual-core 2.4GHz processor. I added another PC today!
It's possible over the next couple of days that there will continue to be brief outtages, as I get some @#$%&@ run-away DCOM process issue debugged.
It happens, but still it’s a great tool.
I just got back from Korea to find virtually all my machines down due to a power failure. No points for most of last week. However, I’m getting them up and should be at 60-80% of DU in a day or two.
Having passed the million mark, I’m officially at 16 or 17% of their total. Give me till Christmas and I’ll be at 20% or higher.
Klutz and I will make them look like monkeys.
Well the power failure and misc problems have put the Mini-Wulf on hold for the forseeable future.
However, a new surprise this morning. The SMP client I’m running on some windows boxes has expired. Looks like I’m slowly getting notice at different points in time. Will have to deal with that this week as well.
Joseph
How many Playstations do we have on our team?
Making them look like monkeys will be easier when the Windows SMP client will run as a service.
I think that we have about half a dozen PS3s on the team.
Not as many as we would like to have folding!
It looks like several of our systems have moved over to the SMP client, especially the Mac SMP.
Sure puts out a lot of points.
That POPC for 1760 seems to be the only work load they’re throwing at the SMP clients I’m running. Have to wonder how long POPC deal will last and whether or not all the SMP work will always return that level of value.
Take advantage of it. With your contribution the FReeper folding team will pass five teams this month, and only 2 PS3 teams can keep up with us.

[snip] Folding@home hit a true petaFLOP on Sept 16. Then the PS3 folders hit a petaFLOP by themselves on Sept 23! [end]
