Update: Jason David was just burned again for another TD, as the Colts continue to score at will through the air.

Nice pick up there, Saints.

I actually managed to stay up for the whole game last night. While they looked a little sluggish in the first half, if the Colts can continue play at that level on offense and, more especially, defense, they have to be the odds-on favorites to win again this year.

We’ll see. If they can repeat that performance against the elite AFC teams then certainly. The Lombardi trophy will be won in the AFC title game again.

They've got to be the favorites until someone can prove they're better. The offense is as good as it ever was, and if the defense plays even 3/4 that good, they're going to be practically scary.

You are correct, though, that the Super Bowl will be anti-climactic after the real title game, the AFC Championship.

Chargers v Bears looks to be a good one.

Bengals opening on Monday night against the Raven’s is the game with the biggest implications overall. Should be a great one. Bengals first game is ‘must win’ given the parity in the AFC North this year.

I can’t make up my mind if the Colts are that good, or the Saints offense is that freakin bad this morning.

I noted a small bit of irony last night. The Colts won SB 41. What was the score? Colts-41, Saints-10

‘Anyone know why the quarterbacks have the round green stickers on the back their helmets? I have noticed it this year in every game on quarterbacks only.’

Thats the league’s new headset system for the quarterbacks from what I can tell.

‘Well why is it that I find Peyton Manning to be very annoying? ‘

For the same reason some find Chad Johnson ‘annoying’.

They aren’t on ‘your team’...(chuckle)

There is Manning, then Brady/Brees/Palmer...then the rest of the quarterbacks in the NFL.

Although Brees didn’t play up to it last night.

Hmmmm. If you think about it, last season with the Colts was the ‘aberration’. They’ve made it a habit to come out smoking for the first dozen games, then slow down, getting knocked out of the playoffs.

I’m not sure if it was the Colts D, or the Saint’s O that was the culprit in this blowout.

Although I believe the Bears are better than the Saints I don’t think the Chargers will have too much trouble with them.

Even though it is only week one I do agree that it’d put Cincy in a tough spot as far as the division goes if they drop their home game against Baltimore.

I’d have to give credit to the Colts’ “D”, I think. New Orleans was completely shut down — their only big plays were a few gimmick types like end-arounds, and the defensive TD. Nothing deep at all, that was completely taken away — the few sustained drives were all based on runs and 3-5 yard passes, and those wound up stalling into FG attempts (and the garbage time INT for TD). Did the Saints even start one play inside the Colts’ 20 yard line all game?

The Bears play very well...against the NFC. Depends on how well Rivers is throwing the ball, you know Da Bearssss will focus on stopping LT, just like everybody else.

I’m pretty confident heading into the Ravens game, being its a home game, and the Bengals have won 4 of the last 5 against Baltimore. The only loss was last years game at Baltimore, and it was still close even though the Bengals turned the ball over TWICE in the first five minutes. Without that, we would have swept the Ravens two years running.

Ghiacec v Nagata on the O line will also be a huge personal battle. If the O line plays well, Ravens gotta blitz and that means Chad or TJ is one on one. The Bengals win those situations routinely over the past couple of seasons.

We’ll see.

Saunders makes all the difference for the Colts defense. Its no accident they made their run beginning last year when he got healthy, nor was it an accident last night with him on the field.

Can he stay healthy? Can the Colts avoid reverting to form - coming out of the gate smoking hot, only to slow down and then lose in the first round of the playoffs?

Everybody wants to beat the reigning champs....

Can he stay healthy?

That's always the wild-card for any team. One or two key injuries is the difference between Super Bowl contender and "struggling to make the playoffs".

True enough, look no further than last years Bengal’s team. Four of Five starting O linemen missed the majority of the season last year. Starting pro bowl corner missed half the season (O’Neil), starting Safety missed a half dozen or more games (Dexter Jackson).

And two of three starting linebackers missed virtually all of last season, beginning with what we call locally ‘The Cleveland Massacre’ where we lost Pollack at LB (probably forever due to a neck injury) on top of idiot but talented ODell Thurmond to suspension. Brian Simmons (no longer with the team) missed six - eight games as well.

We went from ‘sexy Super Bowl pick’ to 8-8 as a result. No team can overcome that amount of injuries to the starting 22 and remain viable in the NFL.

Something some fantasy league types refused to acknowledge last season on another website actually....(chuckle)

Well the Bears just beat the Chargers in Glenn Beck’s Moron Trivia so we’ll see.

It was nice of the Colts to help NBC out by keeping the Saints in the game for a half.
