Cops: Teacher had sex with 8th-grader

A Miami-Dade teacher has been arrested on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior on a minor.
Mariella Brenlla, 40, was a teacher at Ponce De Leon Middle School in Coral Gables.
According to authorities, Brenlla engaged in sexual activity with her victim, who at the time was 14 and an eighth-grade student at the school.
The incidents occurred off campus between 2002 and 2003, said Edward Torrens, a spokesman for Miami-Dade schools police.
The teacher had been on administrative leave since February, Torrens said.
