MONTEBELLO, Quebec President Bush today sidestepped a direct question about whether he'd be willing to categorically deny there is a plan to create the North American Union.
Instead, he ridiculed those who believe that is taking place as conspiracy theorists.
The exchange came at a news conference held by Bush, Mexico's President Felipe Calderon, and Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper, who met at a resort in the rural woods outside of Ottawa, Quebec, to discuss their latest work on the Security and Prosperity Partnership.
After the trio presented their prepared statement about the SPP, several reporters who had been selected in advance were allowed to ask questions.
When it came time for a question from a Fox News reporter, Bush was asked if he would be willing to categorically deny that there is a plan to create a North American Union, or that there are plans to create NAFTA Superhighways.
"As you three leaders meet here, there are a growing number of people in each of your countries who have expressed concern about the Security and Prosperity Partnership. This is addressed to all three of you. Can you say today that this is not a prelude to a North American Union, similar to a European Union? Are there plans to build some kind of superhighway connecting all three countries? And do you believe all of these theories about a possible erosion of national identity stem from a lack of transparency from this partnership?" was the question, according to a White House transcript.
Reporters at the news conference said he sidestepped, instead adopting the tactic that those who are arguing the European Union model of integrating nations into a larger continental union is being used in North America should be ridiculed.

Notice that in my last post I didn’t say that I believed in the NAU nor that I thought it is happening. I was simply implying that we as the American people should be watching our backs because from time to time the government comes up with a hair-brained idea that we need to stage an intervention for. IE Dubai Ports, and the Amnesty Bill.
My cousin lives in Howard County MD. I live in Mclean VA. Inside the beltway DC is currently 45% non white but the public schools are 55% non white so its expected within a decade that dc’s inside the beltway inner suburbs will go non white. Fairfax county shifted from voting democratic to republican in 1964 in presidential elections. In 2004 it shifted back to voting democratic in presidential elections.
Yes, I was being overly sarcastic because people on this thread are being extremely cavalier with their calling anyone and everyone a tinfoil hat wearing loon.
FWIW-the single issue crowd are those that post here (on this thread and others) with the Jorge references, hijacking the thread down the illegal immigration path, the sweeping generalization posts that anyone who supports Bush is pro-illegal immigration, which is a fallacious statment...but...hey...you’re not rational..so why bring this up.
so..since we’re going the sarcastic banter routine...let’s just keep on going.
So, to catch up...that’s right to buy into the massive superstate theory in which the POTUS sells the country down the river...is so “in the know”...
Yeah, that’s right I am the one that is completely “ignorant” for not believing the POTUS is having a super duper not so secret meeting to dissolve US soveriegnty and thus sell our birth right to Mexico and Canada for tamales and maple syrup...yummy...
How come FREE REPUBLIC.com won’t allow reference to
VDARE ?
Honestly, brentla. I do believe that some conspiracies have credence...if you think I have been to cavalier then that’s unfortunate. However, I do think the NAU issue is tinfoil worthy...and if you disagree...then we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
I think you’re afraid that this is going to turn out like the illegal immigration reform fiasco. I also think you’ve got good reason to be concerned. LOL
So now you imply that because I was being sarcastic that I’m not rational. Interesting deduction. I’m assuming had I posted in the beginning of the thread that -I believe that it’s alright to question the government and whether this is a conspiracy or not at least we need to watch our backs.-
You would’ve called me an irrational tinfoil wearing loon then as well?
“And FYI, just because we doesn’t believe in your silly conspiracy theories doesn’t make us pro-illegal, for open borders or Bushbots. You are only making yourself look more foolish by posting such crap.”
Is that so? Then, where you are concerned, perhaps you’d be willing to provide links to your posts that show otherwise. A cursory review of your posts leaves one hard pressed to find ANY criticism by you of Bush’s hand-holding with Kennedy & McCain, or his pushing CIR (amnesty) in a critical election year, or of his refusal to secure the borders. One will, however, consistently find your posts to be in defense of Bush, including the repeated posting of this:

Lionel, my critics—they crave my essence; women want my power, but I deny it to them.
Let’s face it—they don’t want what’s best for North America, starting with fluoridation in our drinking water, or agua, if you will, and in dairy products.
Pure distilled water my friend. And the children, Mandrake—in Mexico, Canada and even in this country—children and mucus . . .
22 congressmen have signed a letter regarding the conspiracy.
Aug. 6 a letter to Pres. Bush regarding the upcoming SPP meetings. It says in part:
We call on you not to pledge or agree to any further movement in connection with the SPP at the upcoming North American summit.
Rather, in the interest of transparency and accoutability, we urge you to bring to the Congress whatever provisions have already been agreed upon and those now being pursued or contemplated as part of this initiative, for the purpose of obtaining authorization through the normal legislative process. Only by so doing, can your partners in Canada and Mexico have confidence in the future application of such arrangements.
(Sorry, it’s a pdf, can’t copy it all)
Per Allan Wall of Front Page Mag:
Mexicans see the U.S. as a powerful country that can do anything it wants and constantly threatens Mexican sovereignty. The U.S. is seen as always on the verge of taking over Mexico.
Its in that context that many Mexicans view NAFTA: as a way for U.S. business/government to exercise hegemony over Mexico. And thats how some view the SPP (or as its called in Spanish, the Alianza Para la Seguridad y la Prosperidad de América del NorteASPAN).
Generally, the opposition to SPP is found on the right in the U.S. and on the left in Mexico.
look at this article in the left-wing Mexican newspaper Jornada, by Jose Antonio Almazan, bluntly entitled “ASPAN: Riesgo para Mexico” (SPPA Risk for Mexico) [March 22nd, 2007].
“If they didnt sneak around like cowards the conspiracy theorists would be proven wrong.”
That’s basically it in a nutshell isn’t it.
I don’t know if there’s an “American Union” or not. But I do know this.
They are being vague for a reason and they are trying to do things under the radar for a reason. IF they were more open and above board none of this would even be an issue.
We the taxpayers have a right to know what’s going on and we have a right to approve of it or kill it. Some of the comrades may not agree but that’s tough noogies.
VDARE ?
Ask the mods.
NAFTA made it possible for US government subsidized grain to go to Mexico where it drove small mexican farmers out of business. Guess where they went?
think. who benefited. who was not benefited. if you can think that through you can get a pretty good idea of whose interests you serve when you speak on these matters.
They are being vague for a reason and they are trying to do things under the radar for a reason. IF they were more open and above board none of this would even be an issue.
///////////////
the reason for the going under the radar is because this was the way it was done with the EU: stealthily, bureaucratically, and incrementally over decades.
Why is this a conspiracy theory? This HAPPENED in Europe. The Dutch parliament is debating whether to adopt English as the national language, since both Dutch and Friesen are such minor languages.
From a business perspective, I’ll say this: Only 20% of all corporate mergers succeed. Countries are businesses, first and foremost, and should act accordingly.
Certainly, a case can be made as to the benefits Russia has realized as a result of its recent divestitures.
Tin foilers! Yuk yuk.
You’re exactly right, CC—sometimes it’s a lot like ‘Night of the Living GOP Robots’ around here; e.g. if President Bush proposed burning the original Constitution on the steps of the Capitol building this coming Labor Day at noon, I expect there would be serious debate on the propriety of the proposal in certain quarters.
The rest of us, however, say: “(Tin-hats firmly in place) Nerts to your New World Order, Boss . . . “
[No to your `Comprehensive North American Union’ trial balloon, build the dam fence, see you at the signing, etc.]
