Suspect is charged in three Newark murders (Illegal Alert)

In a courtroom filled with family members, Jose Carranza pleaded not guilty this morning to three counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and weapons possession in the execution-style murders of three college students behind a Newark elementary school Saturday night. Carranza, 28, of Orange, wearing an orange jumpsuit, showed no emotion as he sat in court with his hands cuffed and communicated via a Spanish-speaking translator. Families of both the suspect and the victims filled the courtroom, though they said nothing. Mayor Cory Booker, Essex County Prosecutor Paula Dow and Sheriff Armando Fontoura were also in court. Carranza's bail was continued at $1 million. After the proceeding, sheriff's officers escorted the victims' kin out of the courtroom. Then, Carranza's mother and brother were led out. None spoke with the press. Assistant Prosecutor Thomas McTigue disclosed that there is an immigration detainer on Carranza. Carranza's attorney, Felix Lopex-Montalvo said his client is undocumented, an illegal immigrant from Peru. Carranza, who lives in Orange with his wife and a daughter described as 1 or 2 years old, was facing two sets of criminal charges even before police identified him as a suspect in the Newark triple murder. Court records show he was charged with aggravated assault and weapons counts stemming from a bar fight last October. In the more serious case, he was charged under an alias, Jose Larchire, with repeatedly raping a girl over a four-year period. The assaults began when the child was almost 5 years old, according to an indictment handed up last month. The alleged attacks ended in January. Carranza was free on bail and awaiting trial in both criminal cases when he turned himself in Thursday.

>>>I have wondered if the Bloods gang symbol reportedly found at the crime scene was already there or put there to lead the police in the wrong direction.

The police gang units will hear about that right away too.

I know nothing about gangs, but I’m guessing that, if this was a “turf violation,” Mr. Carranza isn’t going to have an easy time in prison.

You have that exactly right. The gang justice will be better than anything our court systems can ever do.

Oh, look at VOA’s keyword. I think that was what you were looking for in tracking illegal alien crimes.

IF the creep was here in Oregon he would of been on an INS hold when he went to jail for sexually assaulting those kids and he would of not been out on bail.

Obvious NJ does not have a INS hold for illegals who commit crimes and post bail.

NAACP opens membership drive for Hispanic chapter - registration drive in Bronx, New York, for first Hispanic chapter of the NAACP -

Jet, May 31, 1993
In hopes of diversifying its membership to other minority groups, the NAACP began registering members in the Bronx, N.Y., for its first Hispanic chapter.

NAACP Executive Director Benjamin Chavis called the chapter a first step toward creating interest among other racial and ethnic groups in the 84-year-old organation, whose membership is 500,000 strong.

I think it is time for the victims and families of victims to sue the sanctuary cities (mayors and council members included) as accomplices in crimes committed by illegal immigrants. If they were not aiding and abetting, the flow of criminal illegals would lessen.

New Jersey

Does my state have the death penalty?

Yes, however New Jersey has not had an execution since 1976. New Jersey has not executed anyone since capital punishment was reinstated here in 1982, but four of the thirteen people on New Jersey’s death row have exhausted their state appeals. Estimates as to when the first execution will take place fall within 6 months. NJADP is urging citizens to contact the Governor now and tell him to support S-1212, which replaces the death penalty with life without parole. There are currently 2 bills in the Assembly and 1 in the Senate to abolish the death penalty and replace with life without parole.

What is my governor’s position on the death penalty?

Governor John Corzine (D) opposes the death penalty. Governor Corzine also voted yes to a bill that would require DNA testing for all federal executions and yes for moratorium on death penalty- more DNA testing

How many people are on Death Row in my state?

Of the 13 prisoners on Death Row in New Jersey, 6 are black and 7 are white. Of the 13 prisoners on Death Row in New Jersey, 1 is a woman.

Carranza was free on bail and awaiting trial in both criminal cases when he turned himself in Thursday.

Why was he not in jail, without bail, as a flight risk, since it had already been determined that he was illegal? Our policy is to try them, sentence them, have them serve their time, and then deport them. I guess that's all well and good, since the theory is that most of their home countries would not keep them in custody and return them for trial if we deported them right away. But it would certainly make sense for an illegal alien arrested for these crimes to stay in jail from the moment he's arrested. Or maybe Newark is a "sanctuary city"...
